Christmas Fire Sends 1 To Hospital, Causes $55K In Damage In Glenview

The fire remains under investigation, according to the Glenview Fire Department.

GLENVIEW, IL — An late Christmas Day fire sent one resident to the hospital and caused structural damage to a coach house in the 1800 block of Jefferson Avenue. The resident was treated shortly after firefighters arrived at the home at around 11:37 p.m. Sunday, according to the Glenview Fire Department. They are in stable condition.

Additionally, a firefighter was treated and released at the scene for minor injuries.

Firefighters originally responded to a reported garage fire at the property. While responding, firefighters witnessed a large column of smoke coming from the neighborhood of the reported fire. The Glenview public safety dispatch also advised crews of a possible victim that was trapped inside the structure. The alarm was upgraded and additional units were dispatched.

The first arriving unit reported a coach house in the rear of the structure fully involved in flames. The occupant of the structure was found outside the structure, treated and taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

Responding fire crews — including Winnetka, Morton Grove, Northfield, Northbrook, Des Plaines and Evanston and Mount Prospect — deployed hose lines to the front of the structure and began to suppress the fire. Additional handlines were placed in service to assist with fire suppression. The fire was reported out at 12:27 a.m. Monday.

The estimated loss from the garage fire is $55,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
