Couple Distracts Suburban Shoppers, Steals Their Cards

Police are asking for help identifying 2 supermarket swindlers.

GLENVIEW, IL — Police are looking for a man and woman suspected of stealing credit cards from shoppers in the north suburbs. Glenview police released photos of the couple Thursday and described the pattern of crimes for which they are believed to be responsible.

The couple frequents Trader Joe's grocery stores in several towns in the Chicago area, police said.

One of them distracts a shopper while the other one steals the shopper's wallet or purse, according to police.

Police said the pair immediately uses the stolen credit cards at various area stores, like Best Buy and Target.

They also often change clothes to attempt to hide their identity, according to Glenview police. The man has been described as speaking with a European accent, and the couple has been seen in Glenview and about half a dozen surrounding towns. Police said the incident in Glenview was reported on the morning of Aug. 28 and that all the other instances the same suspects are believed to be connected with were also at Trader Joe's stores.
