Credit Card Declined As Full Cart Leaves Biz: Glenview PD Blotter

A man's credit card was denied at the register as a woman he was with left the store with a cart full of unpaid items.

Amagalabaatar Battsengel, 25, of the 3600 block of Salem Walk, Northbrook, is accused of criminal damage to property, and was arrested at 12:06 a.m. Jan. 25. The arrest followed Battsengel being involved in a battery at New Village Gastro Pub, 3566 Milwaukee Ave., according to police. He was released and assigned a court date of Feb. 15.

INCIDENTS

TRESPASS WARNING

An employee of a Waukegan Road business reported at 11:03 a.m. Jan. 23, a customer was being vulgar toward store personnel. The employee requested the customer be trespassed from the store.

FRAUD

A Spruce Street resident called police at 12:22 p.m. Jan. 23, to report several unauthorized ACH transactions on their checking account. Total loss is $17,686.06.

THEFT

  • A business owner in the 3200 block of Glenview Road reported at 2:09 p.m. Jan. 23, receiving a phone call from someone saying they were with ComEd. The unknown caller said the business owed $2,000 immediately or their electric service would be shut off. The business owner was instructed to purchase $2,000 worth of CVS and Walmart gift cards to pay the bill.
  • A Waukegan Road resident called police on Jan. 25 to report that between 11:07 a.m. and 5 pm. Jan. 11, someone removed a UPS package containing an Acer computer monitor from the lobby area of their building. Total loss is$100.
  • An Elm Street resident reported on Jan. 26 that someone had stolen their cellphone.
  • A resident in the 2200 block of Birchwood Court reported at 1:20 p.m. Jan. 28, a customer agreed to buy two sports jerseys from their website. They received a $250 payment from the customer. The customer then said that there was a problem with their Zelle account and convinced the victim to send $1,000 to several different names through Zelle.
  • A resident in the 1400 block of Estate Lane called police on Jan. 29, to report five days earlier someone stole a heart-shaped ornament from their front door. Total loss is $20.

RETAIL THEFT

  • An employee of a business in the 2700 block of Pfingsten Road called police at 8:01 p.m. Jan. 23, to report a male and female were checking out when the male's credit card was denied. The female exited the store with the shopping cart full of items and fled the scene without paying.
  • An employee of a business in the 2700 block of Willow Road reported on Jan. 25, that a male and female had left the store without paying for an eggbeater, sweater, and basket valued at approximately $30.
  • An employee of a Waukegan Road business called police at 6:45 p.m. Jan. 28, to report two men entered the store and stole several bottles of tequila. Total loss is approximately $500.

FORGERY

A Kendale Drive resident reported on Jan. 25 that they had mailed a check on Jan. 15, using an outside mail receptacle. They were alerted the check did not arrive and discovered that the recipient’s name had been altered to a female suspect. Total loss is $7,500.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Buccaneer Drive resident reported on Jan. 25 that two days prior, an unknown female advised them of four fraudulent charges on their debit card. The offender advised the victim to transfer money to an Apple play card. The resident made seven transactions totaling $8,500 before realizing they might have been scammed.
  • A Burton Terrace resident reported that between Jan. 20 and Jan. 26, there had been unauthorized activity on their Nordstroms, Lowes, and Meijer credit cards. The total loss was reported at $6,928.76.
  • A Montgomery Lane resident reported on Jan. 26 two Chase Bank business accounts had been opened in their name. Two pending wire transfers from their current checking account, totaling $66,350, were made into the unauthorized business accounts. Chase Bank was notified, and there is no financial loss at this time.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A landlord reported at 10:59 a.m. Jan. 25, their tenant at a residence in the 1700 block of Dewes Street intentionally damaged and or removed several items from the home. The total loss was reported at $50,000.

ORDNANCE VIOLATION
  • A business owner in the 1700 block of Milwaukee Avenue was cited at 1 a.m. Jan. 27, for a liquor license violation for operating outside permitted hours after officers observed patrons drinking after 1 a.m. The business owner was given an administrative court date of Feb. 14
  • A business owner in the 3500 block of Milwaukee Avenue was issued a verbal warning at 1:59 a.m. Jan. 27, for a liquor license violation for operating outside permitted hours after officers observed patrons drinking after 1 a.m.

BURGLARY

An employee of a business in the 1600 block of Waukegan Road called police at 3:24 a.m. Jan. 27, to report the front window was smashed out at the location, and three unknown subjects damaged the ATM and the Bitcoin machine. Niles, Park Ridge, and Wheeling police departments also experienced similar incidents in their town.

BUSINESS BURGLARY

Police responded to a business in the 3300 block of Milwaukee Avenue at 1:58 a.m. Jan. 30, for an alarm. Officers arrived on scene and observed the front entrance glass door shattered. The business owner reported unknown offenders stole eight bottles of various liquors.
