RJ Lindsay, living history impersonator, returns to the Library. Lindsay will introduce you to Stephen T. Mather, founding director of the National Park Service, and tell the dramatic story of saving the parks from congressional neglect, ruthless loggers, and greedy developers. Mather will trace the important life experiences that led him to his position as first Park Director. During Mather’s tenure, the park system nearly doubled in size and more Americans visited than ever before. Director Mather tells his intriguing story with stunning photographs of the parklands and wildlife he fought to save. As America takes to the road during the final days of summer to enjoy the splendor of its national park system, this is an especially poignant and meaningful piece of living history.
