Evanston Man Faces Gun Charges: Glenview Police Blotter

He is accused of unlawful use of gun, possession of a gun with no FOID card, possession of ammunition with no FOID card, and other charges.

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department (unless otherwise noted) and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police.   • Steven Norton, 58, of the 6500 block of Riverview Avenue, Niles, is accused of driving under the influence, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, failure to give information after striking property, expired registration, and was arrested at 7:26 p.m. Nov. 25, after a hit-and-run investigation in the 2500 block of Indian Ridge Drive. He was released with a court date.
  • Taras Koshariuk, 44, of the 4300 block of West Lake Avenue, Glenview, is accused of DUI alcohol, DUI alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or more, and was arrested at 9:46 p.m. Nov. 22, after a traffic crash investigation in the 2700 block of Sable Drive. Koshariuk was released with a court date.

UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON

Sion Vassell, 19, of the 600 block of Elmwood Road, Evanston, is accused of unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm with no FOID card, possession of ammunition with no FOID card, no taillights, expired registration, failure to display registration, defacing identification marks on a firearm, and was arrested at 10:53 p.m. Nov. 20, after a traffic stop in the 8300 block of West Golf Road. He was released with a court date.

BURGLARY

Joel Kondic, 24, of the 23600 block 0f Valley Road, Lake Zurich, is accused of commercial burglary, two counts of theft by using an emergency exit, possession of a controlled substance, and was arrested at 1:33 p.m. Nov. 21. The arrest followed an investigation into incidents reported on Oct. 9 and Oct. 10 at a business in the 1900 block of Tower Drive. He was held for a detention hearing at the Skokie Courthouse.

INCIDENTS

RETAIL THEFT

  • An employee of a business in the 2800 block of Patriot Boulevard called police at 1:39 p.m. Nov. 22, to report three male suspects filled a shopping cart full of items and walked it toward the exit. The males exited the store, leaving the shopping cart in the store, and entered a vehicle which left the area.
  • An employee of a business in the 2800 block of Pfingsten Road reported at 7:38 a.m. Nov. 24, a male ran out of the store carrying a black duffle bag, triggering the security sensors. The male got into a vehicle driven by another male and left the area.
  • An employee of a business in the 2500 block of Waukegan Road called police at 11:03 a.m. Nov. 25, to report a male suspect stole bottles of liquor from the store. The male left the area in a red sedan.
  • Employees of a business in the 900 block of Harlem Avenue reported at 5:12 p.m. Nov 27, a male customer stole several vape supplies from the business.

FORGERY

  • A Fielding Drive resident reported at 12:10 p.m. Nov. 23, a check mailed through the U.S. Post Office was intercepted in the mail and cashed for a different amount to a different person.
  • An Alvin Court resident called police on Nov. 25 to report that a check mailed from the Glenview Post Office on Nov. 19 was stolen at some point and cashed by a different person for a different amount.
  • A Robincrest Lane resident reported at 4:46 p.m. Nov. 27, a check mailed at the Glenview U.S. Post Office was intercepted in the mail and cashed to a different person for the same amount.

BURGLARY FROM MOTOR VEHICLE

A resident in the 900 block of Laramie Avenue reported that at 1:44 a.m. Nov. 21, someone entered their parked vehicle and stole cash from inside.

TRESPASS WARNING

An employee of a business in the 1600 block of Waukegan Road called police at 8:37 a.m. Nov. 24, to report a customer caused a disturbance inside the store. The customer was given a trespass notice to the business at the request of employees.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Juniper Road resident reported at 1:24 p.m. Nov. 24, someone had opened a bank account in their name and used their credit card to make an online purchase.
  • A resident in the 500 block of Short Lane called police at 1:46 p.m. Nov. 25, to report someone opened a financial account in their name and took out a vehicle loan.

THEFT

A resident in the 1600 block of Greenwood Road reported that between Nov. 17 and Nov. 24, someone stole their bicycle, which was locked in a bike rack.

BURGLARY TO A VEHICLE

An employee of a business in the 4300 block of Regency Drive reported at 5:09 a.m. Nov. 25, two males had smashed the rear window out of their vehicle and attempted to take items from inside the vehicle.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

A resident reported at 10:26 p.m. Nov. 25, someone had egged their vehicle while they were stopped at the light at Shermer Road and Glenview Road. The eggs caused the paint to chip on the vehicle.

SPEEDING

A resident in the 4100 block of Williamsburg Court was cited at 9:09 p.m. Nov. 26, for speeding (35+mph over the speed limit) after a traffic stop in the 3100 block of Sanders Road.

STOLEN VEHICLE

A resident in the 4600 block of West Lake Avenue reported at 3:21 a.m. Nov. 27, someone stole their vehicle from the driveway.
