HARASSMENT BY ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

Enoch Lacey, 46, of the 2700 block of W. Washington Boulevard, Chicago, had a warrant out of Glenview for harassment by electronic communication, and was arrested at 4:50 a.m. May 12, by the Chicago Police Department.

Lawrence Bernstein, 79, of the 1400 block of Maple Avenue, Wilmette, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or more, and was arrested at 8:55 p.m. May 6, in the 1700 block of East Lake following a traffic crash investigation. A court date of June 17 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

ATTEMPTED THEFT

Police responded to the 1400 block of Baffin Road at 2:16 p.m. May 6, for a well-being check. The homeowner had withdrawn $25,000 from three bank locations despite warnings from bank employees about a potential scam. The homeowner was contacted by a female who claimed the homeowner’s bank account was hacked and instructed them to withdraw the money to give to a federal agent. The homeowner withdrew the money, but then became suspicious and ended the call when officers arrived. They redeposited the money into their bank account.

STOLEN VEHICLE
A Park Ridge resident reported on May 7 that their car, with the keys inside, had been parked in a driveway in the 3900 block of Countryside Lane and was last seen at 5 p.m. GPS showed the vehicle tracking into Indiana, with a crash notification. It was learned the driver of the vehicle, a Glenview resident, was taken into custody by Porter County Sheriff.

THEFT

  • Police were requested to check on a possible scam at 5:51 p.m. May 7, that involved a resident in the 1200 block of Depot Street who purchased over $300,000 worth of gold coins after being instructed to liquidate their accounts due to possible fraud. They gave the coins to someone they believed was assisting them from the bank. Total loss is $329,892.
  • A Sequoia Trail resident reported at 12:01 p.m. May 8, clicking on an Instagram advertisement for an investment company. They spoke with a representative via messaging that spoke in Russian and said they were based in England. They were advised to send $500 via Zelle to start the account, which they complied. The next day, they were told they made $60 and would need to provide personal information in order to cash out the profit. They then realized it was a scam and the bank was unable to reverse the transaction.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Damage was reported at a park in the 1900 block of Westleigh Drive at 8:26 a.m. May 8. A toilet was shattered and two doors had words etched into them. Estimated damage is $2,000.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

  • An employee of a business in the 0 block of Waukegan Road reported an ex-employee had called 30 times between 11:30 a.m. and 2:55 p.m. May 8. The former employee threatened them, saying they would come and kill them, calling them racial slurs. The ex-employee was upset because they never received a paycheck for the six hours worked before they quit.
  • A manager of a residence in the 1900 block of Chestnut Avenue reported at 9:33 p.m. May 10, a strong odor in an elevator that caused the fire alarm to activate. The manager explained, after investigating a strong odor of feces, they determined the likely source was a liquid that had been sprayed on the walls of an elevator. Glenview firefighters investigated after the fire alarm was activated due to the strong odor.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

Glenview police responded to the 2000 block of Waukegan Road at 3:11 a.m. May 10, for a report of a large gate had been damaged. A check of the property revealed that the business had been burglarized, by breaking a pane glass window to enter. The inside of the business had damaged glass doors and numerous desk drawers and cabinets were open. It is unknown what was taken.

RETAIL THEFT

A manager of a business in the 1300 block of Patriot Boulevard reported that at 3:30 p.m. May 10, someone had stolen multiple items from the business. They explained the suspect, possibly a Chicago resident, selected multiple flower bouquets, chocolate, and balloons, totaling $628.60, then left without paying. The suspect entered a black in color Cadillac Escalade and left the scene.
