Late in the first quarter, Prospect again fumbled and Glenbrook South recovered at the Prospect 26-yard line. On the following drive, Titans quarterback Mac Zabriskie connected with Zach Jones on a 9-yard touchdown strike to give Glenbrook South the lead 7-3. It was just the beginning for a huge game for Zabriskie.

“Our defense played pretty well,” Glenbrook South head coach Mike Noll said. “We had good field position and that helped our offense.”

Glenbrook South’s defense came up big again late in the first half when B.J. Hoekstra intercepted a pass from Frasco and returned it to Prospect’s 22-yard line. Zabriskie added his third first half touchdown. This time, he found Charlie Tisch at the goal line. At halftime, Glenbrook South led 20-3.

Prospect would make up some ground early in the third quarter when running back Sam Mazukelli ran for an impressive 43-yard touchdown to get the Knights within 10 points. Mazukelli ran into a group of defenders near the line of scrimmage but was able to spin away and scored.

On the following Glenbrook South possession, Zabriskie made his only error of the game throwing an interception, which was returned to Glenbrook South’s 25-yard line. However, Prospect was not able to capitalize and turned the ball over after failing to convert on fourth down.

The Titans delivered the dagger on the next possession when Zabriskie thtrew a 34-yard touchdown strike to running back Kevin Schroeder to increase the lead to 27-10. GBS added one more touchdown on a Billy Pappas 34-yard touchdown run.

Zabriskie was fantastic completing 8-of-11, 151-yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Running back’s Alex Leet, Billy Pappas and Kevin Schroeder combined for 161-yards rushing and one touchdown. “It’s a good way to start the season,” Noll said. “Hopefully we can take this momentum into the future.”

Glenbrook South opens up its road schedule next week as they travel to face Stevenson. It begins a stretch where GBS plays 3-of-4 games on the road including a trip to crosstown rival Glenbrook North.
