Where/When: Panera Bread, 2512 Waukegan Rd., Glenview
Why Go: Why not? With just around the corner, make a sweet treat with your loved ones without making the mess at your place!
Pricing: Purchase a shortbread cookie to participate.


Where/When: Glenview Public Library, Saturday at 11 a.m.
Why Go: If you have yet to see the newly remodeled it’s the perfect excuse to venture out in the cold with the toddlers to enjoy some rhymes and story time.

Where/When: Daily, 7-9 p.m. Allstate Arena from January 26-30 and the United Center from February 2-13.
Why Go: The toys are back in town for an ice skating show for kids of all ages!
Pricing: Save a few extra bucks when purchasing matinee shows on ticketmaster by entering “MOM2” or “MOM” as the discount code. Tickets range in price from $15-75.


Where/When: Northbrook Park District, Friday, Feb. 11, 6:30-9 p.m.        
Why Go: An annual event for daddies and daughters to enjoy a night of dancing, ice cream sundaes and appetizers.

Where/When: Leisure Center and Senior Center, 3323 Walters Ave., Northbrook, 10:30 a.m.
Why Go: Northbrook Musical Theatre for Young Audiences retells the classic fairy tale of “Rapunzel” with song and dance that is sure to delight. After the show children can meet with the characters.
Pricing: $8 in advance, $10 online or at the door.


Where/When: First United Methodist Church of Des Plaines, 668 Graceland Ave., Saturday Feb. 12, at 6 p.m.
Why Go: Make time for a little twist and shout with family and friends in Des Plaines. Dig out those old poodle skirts for the costume and dance contest and swing back to the ’50s and ‘60s.
Pricing:  $10 adults, $8 children


Where/When: Des Plaines Park District travels to East Troy, WI, for a skiing and snowboarding trip on Sunday, Feb. 13.
Why Go: A Colorado getaway may not be an option for some, so send your teen on a relatively inexpensive trip to Wisconsin to learn how to ski and snowboard.  
Pricing: Resident $68, Non-resident $85, includes lift and rental.


Where/When: WineStyles, 1741 Sherman Ave., Evanston. Thursday, Feb. 10, 4-8 p.m.
Why Go: Sneak away from the kiddies, grab some girlfriends and sip some wine at a special trunk show that will feature unique beads, stones and jewelry by Alexia Designs and wearable fused glass pieces from CoGoGlass.

Why Go: Award-winning Russian pianist graces the Nichols Concert Hall stage to play Fantasia in C Minor, Op. 21 by Vladimir Ryabov, in a solo performance.
Pricing: $25 Adults; $15 Seniors; $10 Students

Why Go: In time for Valentine's Day, soprano Amy Conn and pianist Shannon McGinnis harmonize four different ways to say, I love you.

Beer and Wine Tasting for Heartland Animal Shelter
Where/When: Winestyles, 105 S. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge; 5-7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 11
Why Go: Do you like animals? Could you use a drink? Winestyles will be pouring beer and wine, with proceeds benefiting Heartland Animal Shelter in Northbrook, a no-kill shelter that works to place homeless dogs and cats.
Pricing: $10 donation to participate and 10 percent of beer and wine sales will be donated to Heartland.

Why Go: Take it from Trustee A.C. Buehler, who brought up the Variety Show at Tuesday night’s village board meeting: it’s going to be great.

Live Jazz at Pinstripes
Where/When: Pinstripes, 1150 Willow Rd; 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, and Saturday, Feb. 12
Why Go: Skinny Williams, Audley Reid and Thomas Bradford heat up cold nights with smooth jazz throughout February. While you’re there, don’t miss the grilled shrimp and green pea hummus appetizer, the truffled cheese pizza or the pear and apple bread pudding—all. Oh yeah, and did we mention bowling and bocce?
Pricing: Jazz is free, entrees range from $9 to $23
