Glenview to Ban Housing Voucher Discrimination

Village board's preliminary vote indicates village will be on par with Cook County on the issue.

Landlords in Glenview will no longer be allowed to use the use of housing vouchers as a reason to deny someone a lease.

The Glenview Announcements reports the village board agreed, by a 6-1 preliminary vote, to align its fair housing ordinance with Cook County’s. Although it had already been adopted, the village is one of the few County municipalities to allow landlords to opt out of the requirement.

Public speakers at the February 17 meeting were mixed, the Announcements said. Some showing concern that landlords would now have less rights to choose their tenants while others were hopeful the new requirement will allow less fortunate individuals better access to good housing and schools.
