Now, Glenview is particpating for a third year in the Legacy Tree Project, a partnership with Valent Professional Products aimed at building community awareness about the threat posed by the exotic tree-destroying beetle.
Through the Legacy Tree Project, Glenview will receive five years of treatment for more than 200 ash trees with Safari, a systemic insecticide in the Valent product line. The project will treat trees on Patriot Boulevard, Glenview Road and at teh Public Works Derpartment campus on Shermer Road, according to officials.
"The contrast to untreated trees in the area is obvious," Robyn Flakne, Natural Resources Manager for Glenview said of the positive effects o the Legacy Tree Project. "The trees treated with the insecticide have dense canopies, deep green color to the leaves and excellent branch elongation.”
So what should you do?
“Should homeowners wish to attempt to save their ash trees, treating them now is essential,” Flakne added in a recent press release. “This is likely the last year in which treatments might be effective without having to undertake the greater expense of ‘rescue’ tactics."
If you have ash trees, you should have them evaluated by a certified arborist because there are several treatments available. A certified arborist can discuss your individual situation and help you select the most appropriate course of action.”
