Ruse Burglars Nab More Than $5,000 In Jewelry: Glenview Crime

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department as a record of police activity. Readers are reminded everyone arrested is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Criminal charges can be dropped or reduced, and all information is provided as relayed to police.

HOME BURGLARY

More than $5,000 in jewelry was stolen from a home in the 500 block of Warren Road by a purported contractor, a resident reported at 2:24 p.m. on May 30. A man described as Hispanic with a thin build and short hair said he wanted to look at the patio in the back of the building. Meanwhile, another person entered the home and stole the jewelry.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Someone damaged a wooden fence in the 1000 block of Elm Street for a loss of $100, an employee reported at 3:31 on May 30.

BURGLARY

More than $3,000 in jewelry was stolen in the 2500 block of Indigo Lane, a guest reported at 2:36 p.m. on May 30.

IDENTITY THEFT

At 8:35 a.m. on May 31, a resident in the 2200 block of Phillips Drive reported someone used their credit card number to make purchases at several different locations. The loss was not immediately known.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

Someone came to a business in the 2800 block of Old Willow Road and asked suspicious questions about security cameras and codes, an employee reported at 12:05 p.m. on May 31.

IDENTITY THEFT

Shortly after noon on May 31, a resident in the 1000 block of Linden Lane reported someone used their personal information to open up several lines of credit for a reported loss of $2,000.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

At 2:25 p.m. on May 31, a resident in the 1900 block of Wyndham Circle reported someone forced open a door to their home and stole an undetermined number of items.

PHONE HARASSMENT

At 1:50 p.m. on June 1, an employee in the 2300 block Lehigh Avenue reported receiving a call from someone purporting to be with federal immigration services contacted him and demanded money under threat of arrest. There is no loss.

IDENTITY THEFT

At 3:29 p.m. on June 1, a resident in the 1200 block of Washington Street reported someone opened a credit account in their name.

UNWANTED SUBJECTS

An employee in the 700 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported someone living in a storage unit shortly before 4 p.m on June 1.

ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT

An employee in the 2600 block of Compass Road reported receiving unwanted texts and e-mails on June 2 at 12:28 p.m.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident in the 1400 block of Meadow Lane reported someone used their personal information to open a credit account shortly before 2 p.m. on June 2.

THEFT

An employee in the 2500 block of East Lake Avenue reported someone stole $2,500 worth of landscape lights shortly after 2 p.m. on June 2.

RETAIL THEFT

An employee in the 100 block of Waukegan Road reported someone attempted to remove alcohol from the store without paying at 6:35 p.m. on June 3, but there was no loss.

THEFT

At 6:16 p.m. on June 3, an employee in the 1100 Waukegan Road reported someone left without paying for services for a reported loss of $32.

IDENTITY THEFT

At 8:51 a.m. on June 5, an employee in the 2000 block of Pfingsten Road reported someone used their personal information to purchase merchandise for an unknown loss.

THEFT

A business patron in the 4000 block of West Lake Avenue reported at 12:48 p.m. on June 5 that someone had stolen a laptop worth $1,000 from the building.

ARRESTS

THEFT

Andre Reed, 38, of the first block of West 73rd Street in Chicago, was arrested for theft in the 3600 block of West Lake Avenue shortly before 1 p.m. on May 30.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Michael Katsafaros, 44, of the 5800 block of West Higgins Avenue in Chicago, was arrested for driving while license suspended after a traffic stop in the 3200 block of East Lake Avenue at 3:50 p.m. on June 1.

RETAIL THEFT

Jose Perez, 20, of the 5100 block of Greenwood Street in Skokie, was arrested for retail theft in the 1900 block of Tower Drive after removing merchandise from the business without paying shortly after 6 p.m. on June 1.

BATTERY

Ambuji David, 67, of the 4100 block of Cove Lane was charged with battery in the same block at 11:50 a.m. on June 2.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Barbara Ragin, 32, of the 34800 block of North Robin Road in Ingleside, was charged with driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, expired registration and improper use of registration after a traffic stop in the 1500 block of East Lake Avenue at 8:40 p.m. on June 2.

DUI

Wieslaw Winiarski, 56, of the 1400 block of Forest Drive, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper turn after a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Forest Drive at 1:42 a.m. on June 3.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY/FORGERY

Anthony Lopez, 22, of the 100 block of Elm Street, was arrested at 2:30 a.m. on June 3 and charged with residential burglary and forgery after an investigation in the 1900 block of Glenview Road.

THEFT

Stephanie Bakrins, 25, of the 9900 block of Linda Lane in Des Plaines, was charged with theft in the 2100 block of Pfingsten Road at 7 a.m. on June 5.

NO VALID LICENSE

Fionnuala Comer, 38, of the 2900 block of Sherwin Street in Chicago, was charged with driving with no valid driver’s license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and no rear registration plate light after a traffic stop in the 100 block of Shermer Road at 11:45 p.m. on June 5.
