Glenview Library Lays Off 10 to Help Balance Budget

The cuts were of mostly part-time staffers, according to a report.

GLENVIEW, IL - Ten people were laid off by the Glenview Public Library in late 2016.

Library officials made the personnel decisions as a result of the Village of Glenview seeking cuts to avoid a tax increase for the 2017 fiscal year, according to a report from the Glenview Announcements.

"We finally, very reluctantly, had to look at personnel," Library Director Vickie Novak said, noting that in the past cuts were made to “every single” line item in the budget other than employees. "We really took this as a challenge to try to reinvent ourselves. It gave us an opportunity to step back and take a good, hard look at us."
