Glenview Park Golf Club Reopens Friday

Key improvements will be noticed after club was closed for a year.

After being closed for nearly a year, the Glenview Park Golf Club reopens to the public at noon, Friday, July 24.

“The turf grass has grown thick, the renovated bunkers have been raked, and the new fleet of golf carts are charged up and ready to go” said Ron Cassidy, director of golf at GPGC. “From continuous cart paths to rolling contours in the fairways, the challenging layout features beautiful views and substantially improved playability. The course is ready for play and we look forward to welcoming Glenview’s golfing community.”

Cassidy said key improvements also include re-graded fairways, improved turf grass conditions, landscaping, featuring foliage that changes colors with the seasons, reseeded tees and greens and renovated sand bunkers that challenge all levels of golfers. Tee time intervals have been established at 10-minutes and on-course play clocks will help improve flow and pace of play.

Renovating GPGC was one of the key initiatives of Glenview Park District’s strategic plan. The project included significant storm-water management. Improved drainage areas enhance the golf experience and protect area neighborhoods. Natural planting areas placed near water features add beauty and serve as detention areas for excess water. The park district worked with the Village of Glenview throughout course improvements.

“The storm-water management system was intricately woven into the site to fit seamlessly with the surrounding golf course and elicit an immediate sense of environmental sustainability,” says Rick Jacobson, lead architect for the renovation of GPGC. “A concentrated effort was made to incorporate native grasses in non-play areas of the golf course as a thematic design characteristic to reflect the vernacular prairie landscape of the upper Midwest”.

Major construction on the golf course was completed in fall of 2014. This spring, the grounds crew completed landscaping and clubhouse construction began. The clubhouse is also reopening with an updated café, golf shop, and washrooms. The clubhouse includes multiple locations to eat, drink and socialize, both indoors and out.
