Glenview Pumpkin Smash 2017 Starts On A Roll

Jack-o'-Lanterns go from carved to compost at Flick Park on Sunday.

GLENVIEW, IL — Don't get rid of your carved pumpkins just yet. Come on down to Flick Park this weekend for a family-friendly recycling event to support community gardens. The "Pumpkin Smash and Bash" free event is set for Sunday afternoon.

The event begins on Flick Park Sled Hill with a fun competition in which participants roll their leftover pumpkins down the hill, before they're smashed into compost for use in Historic Wagner Farm's fields and community garden plots in the spring.

But remember: Non-carved pumpkins will not be accepted, and remove any candles or glow sticks from inside the pumpkin before showing up.
