In a heartwarming gesture for World Cancer Day, residents and staff at Emerald Place, an Anthem Memory Care community in Glenview, joined together to create “hope packages” for individuals battling cancer at Gilda’s Club Chicago. The initiative aimed to bring comfort and encouragement to those undergoing chemotherapy treatments.

The hope packages, filled with handwritten notes of inspiration, chap stick, lotion, socks, mints and other comforting items were delivered directly to Gilda’s Club. During their visit Emerald Place residents toured the facility and learned about support groups and activities offered to people facing cancer.

“Seeing our residents come together to support cancer patients was truly inspiring,” said Jaime Vahhaji, life engagement director for Emerald Place. “Despite their dementia diagnosis, their compassion and desire to help others shines through. This project gave them a renewed sense of purpose and joy, knowing their small acts of kindness could bring comfort to someone facing a difficult journey. It’s moments like these that remind us how meaningful community connects can be – for both those giving and those receiving support.”
