"God Bless America--For those who gave their all" Concert
The Musical Revue, a USO style troupe, in concert at Glenview Community Church on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at 4:00pm

The Musical Revue is a show/mission choir of approximately two dozen women sponsored by Metropolitan Family Services. These volunteers share their talents each Thursday, traveling to senior centers, assisted living homes, nursing care facilities, and Alzheimer’s units throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. Each week their U.S.O style performance rekindles residents’ memories and touches their hearts. Caregivers often comment on how this special musical performance, featuring songs from the 20s, 30s and 40s, helps to clear a confused mind, and comfort an overwhelmed heart.
The group is sponsored by Metropolitan Family Services. Founded in 1857 as the Chicago Relief and Aid Society, the organization has helped families get through the devastating hardships of poverty, world wars, epidemics and natural disasters.
This Memorial Day we reflect on the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, dedicated to those who would be known as “The Greatest Generation” as they came home to a new beginning. This 45 minute program is filled with songs from this special time in America's life - a time when America was filled with hope, joy, and possibility. The group’s unending enthusiasm will fill the room with wonderful memories and is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.

Phyllis Scott, a graduate of Northwestern University School of Music, has had a long and varied career in music including directing, accompanying, and teaching. Ms. Scott has directed The Musical Revue since 1975. Her personal experience informs her interpretation of this music: in 1965, she traveled with the U.S.O. in Southeast Asia entertaining the troops from Subic Bay to
Seoul and from Taiwan to Tokyo. “When we landed in the Philippines, we went directly to the hospital to talk with our guys and soon realized firsthand what was going on “over there”. We performed on Bob Hope’s stage and, because we were small, our group of eight ladies could also get to missile sites in the mountains or small units on the outskirts of town,” she said. “All in all that summer, we performed more than 70 shows and brought a bit of home to thousands of young men, women (and nuns!).”
