Children experiencing loss often look to the adults in their lives to know how to grieve. If your family or community has recently experienced a loss, do not be afraid to talk with the children who also feel that loss. Many adults believe that by avoiding the subject of loss, they are protecting their children and they will be able to forget their grief. However, the truth is that avoiding talking about or sharing grief may only exacerbate the child's negative emotions because it denies them an outlet.
