Grocery Store Staff Challenged To Fight Over Buffet Food: Blotter

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT
A representative of Glenview Maytag Cleaners, 507 Milwaukee Ave., reported around 2 p.m. on March 5 that a customer had paid a $54 dry cleaning bill using a stolen credit card. The cardholder told officers someone had stolen two of their cards and used them at eight businesses.

THEFT
Someone stole over 1,400 square feet of vinyl tiles worth more than $7,000 from a construction site in the 4700 block of West Lake Avenue between Feb. 9 and Feb. 18.

HOME BURGLARIES

  • Someone pried open a door of a home in the 1000 block of Burton Terrace between 7 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. on March 5, causing an estimated $500 in damage, ransacking bedrooms and stealing an unknown amount of jewelry.
  • Someone stole about $10,000 worth of jewelry from a home in the 2700 block of Porter Court between 2 and 5:15 p.m. on March 9 after apparently being able to get in through an unsecured patio door.
  • A burglar forced open a basement door and stole about $5,200 in jewelry and cash from a home in the 1300 block of Heatherfield Lane between 5 and 8:30 p.m. on March 9.

ANIMAL CRUELTY
A resident reported a dog had been left unattended in a car parked in a lot of a tavern in the 200 block of East Lake Avenue around 7:15 p.m. on March 5. The witness told police the dog had been left outside in 15 degree weather for 45 minutes. Officers spoke to the dog's owner inside the bar and issued a warning.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a 2003 Mercedes parked on a driveway in the 3100 block of Myrtle Parkway between March 1 and March 5.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone threw a landscaping rock through a window at Hoffman School, 2000 Harrison St., between 10 a.m. on March 5 and 6:30 a.m. on March 6, causing an estimated $500 in damage.

TRESPASSING
A resident of the 2000 block of Balmoral Avenue reported at 5:45 a.m. on March 6 that a man who had attempted to extort them was standing in their backyard.

DISTURBANCE
Security at Glenbrook Hospital reported around 5 a.m. on March 7 that a person had come into the lobby of the emergency room, begun shouting loudly and did not cooperate with staff. The person was asked to leave and officers took them home.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO STATE PROPERTY
Someone pried open the elevator panel in a village-owned parking garage in the 2700 block Aviator Lane, causing $2,500 in damage and an elevator malfunction.

THEFT
A resident in the 3100 block of Bellwood Lane reported around 2 a.m. on March 9 that a former roommate stole more than $1,600 worth of property.

CURFEW VIOLATION
A 16-year-old and a 15-year-old accidentally dialed 911 shortly before midnight on March 9 from the Glenview Metra Station at 1116 Depot St. Officers issued a warning for a violation of curfew and turned them both over to their parents.

PURSE SNATCHING
A shopper at Jong Boo Market, 670 Milwaukee Ave., reported someone stole a purse from a shopping cart between 10:10 and 10:17 a.m. on March 11.

UNPAID VOMIT FEE
A taxi driver at Delta Suites, 1400 Milwaukee Ave., reported at 6:12 p.m. on March 11 that a female passenger had vomited inside his cab and refused to pay the $50 cleanup fee along with her fare.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO STATE PROPERTY
A resident reported around 7 p.m. on March 11 that someone had damaged an electronic speed sign in the 1100 block of Lehigh Avenue. It appeared someone had thrown a rock at the sign, causing an estimated $1,000 in damage.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Rodolfo Cisneros, 45, of the 4100 block of North Mason Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 9:30 a.m. on March 5 at the Glenview Police Department following an investigation into a hit-and-run traffic crash earlier that day at the intersection of Lake and Milwaukee Avenues. He was charged with leaving the scene of a vehicle damage accident, failure to provide information and driving without a valid license. He was also issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Jorge Martinez, 34, of the 7300 block of North Damen Avenue, Chicago, was issued a citation for retail theft after taking a pair of Versace perfume bottles valued at $138.00 from boxes at the Kohl's, 2201 Willow Road, around 2:30 p.m. on March 5, hiding the perfume in his clothing before leaving the store without paying. Store staff recovered the perfume.

Robert Khoshaba, 25, of the 8000 block of West 8025 Lyons Street, Niles, was issued a citation for disorderly conduct at 4:30 p.m. on March 5 and warned not to return to the Mariano's at 25 Waukegan Road after police were told he yelled and challenged staff to a fight when they refused to accept his preferred form of payment for food at the grocery store's buffet.

Jason Taylor, 26, of the 5000 block of South Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, was arrested around 3 p.m. on May 6 and charged with felony use of fake identification with intent to deprive after he presented staff at Abt Electronics with a fake driver's license and credit card while trying to buy a computer. The person whose name appeared on the card told police he had never opened the account or authorized any such purchases.

A 37-year-old Northfield man was arrested at 12:50 p.m. on March 7 and charged with driving with a suspended license following an investigation into a traffic crash that took place earlier that day in the area of Wagner Road and Burton Terrace.

Sheena Lewis, 25, of the 900 block of West 63rd Street, Chicago, and Rayford Starks, 18, of the 9200 block of South Marquette Avenue, Chicago, were both arrested around 8:30 p.m. on March 7 at Abt Electronics, 1200 Milwaukee Ave., and charged with forgery. Store security said they each presented separate fake driver's licenses and and unauthorized credit cards using other people's names in an attempt to buy a $2,800 computer.

John Cooley, 61, of the 4000 block of Chester Drive, Glenview, was arrested shortly after 6:30 p.m. on March 10 and charged with domestic battery following an investigation into a disturbance at his home that determined he had pushed a person and pulled hair from their head.
