Man Lies To Police About Fending Off Car Thief: Glenview Blotter

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

ASSAULT
A resident in the 700 block of Becker Road reported on Feb. 26 that a man had threatened to poke them with a syringe at their home at 10:45 p.m. on Feb. 23. The resident did not wish to press charges.

KICKED OUT OF HOTEL
Staff at Sybaris pool suites, 3350 Milwaukee Ave., reported around 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 26 that a drunken guest who had rented a room was refusing to leave. Property managers threatened him with a potential trespassing charge and officers transported him from the scene.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone did $500 in damage to a car parked at the Glenview Park District park center at 2500 Chestnut Ave. between 11:30 a.m. and 1:34 p.m. on Feb. 27.

FALSE REPORT?
A man came to the Glenview police station around 4:15 p.m. on Feb. 27 to report that two unidentified men had tried to steal his parked car from a gas station in the 2400 block of Glenview Road after it was left running. The man claimed he punched a man who had gotten into his driver’s seat and pulled him out of the car as he tried to drive away. Officers informed him there was no surveillance video of the events he described and he faced potential criminal charges if he was found to have filed a false police report, and the man said he no longer wished to report the supposed theft attempt.

FORGERY
Around 5:15 p.m. on Feb. 27, police were told a female diner at Valley Lodge Restaurant, 2132 Waukegan Road, had paid for food with a counterfeit $100 bill and received $82 in change. The woman was described as between 27 and 45 years old.

PARKING LOT SPAT
A resident reported around 10:15 p.m. on Feb. 27 that a man had followed him around the Glenview Park District park center, 2500 Chestnut Ave., and into the parking lot while yelling profanity at him. Officers spoke to the other man, who said the exact opposite had occurred. A park district employee told police he witnessed the incident but did not remember the details. No charges were filed and both men left the scene.

THEFT
Someone stole a package that had been delivered to the front porch of a home in the 3100 block of Harrison Street between 11 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. on Feb. 28. The delivery contained a fryer worth $200.

UNWANTED EMAIL
An employee of Astellas, 1 Astellas Way, called police at 2:16 p.m. on Feb. 28 to report someone was sending emails they did not want to a work account.

HOME BURGLARY
Around 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 28, a resident in the 2500 block of Osage Drive heard a loud bang from inside the house. They found a man in the kitchen, who claimed, "I'm with the fire department, don't worry," then fled. Residents later found a side door had been kicked in. Nothing was reported stolen at the time of the report.

EMPLOYEE THREAT
A business owner in the 2200 block of Sanders Road reported around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 that earlier that afternoon they had confronted a co-worker regarding intimidation of other employees. Police were told, before leaving the business, the co-worker had said, "I'm gonna get you." The employee told officers there had been a disagreement and agreed not to have any further contact or return to the business.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Grandview Place resident reported around 10 a.m. on March 1 that someone had used their identity to obtain a $40,825 car loan. The resident suspected that someone stole their identity when they purchased a mattress on Sept. 2, 2018.

CUSTOMER THREAT
An employee of L.A. Tan, 1760 Waukegan Road, reported around 1 p.m. on March 1 that a customer had gotten upset after having to wait for a spray tan and called the employee several names. Officers contacted the customer and issued a warning not to return.

TELEPHONE HARASSMENT
A Briarhill Road resident reported at 9:12 p.m. on March 1 that a photographer they had hired had spoken "aggressively" toward them. The photographer later called the resident several times and left messages with "strange noises." Officers spoke to the photographer and warned him against any further contact with the resident.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone stole sunglasses worth $50 from a car left unlocked in a driveway in the 3100 block of Coral Lane between 8:30 p.m. on March 1 and 10:21 a.m. on March 2.
  • Two thieves stole headphones, a pocket knife, a state ID and other cards from an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 1900 block of Dauntless Drive around 4:30 a.m. on March 2. Surveillance video showed the thieves and their vehicle parked behind the home. The estimated loss was $425.
  • Someone stole a crossbow, two katana samurai swords, a television, game console and a laptop computer from an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 3100 block of Coral Lane between 11:15 p.m. on March 1 and 8 a.m. on March 2. The estimated loss was $1,390.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone punctured a front tire of a car parked in the Glenview Public Library parking lot, 1930 Glenview Road, between 10 and 10:30 a.m. on March 2.

GIFT CARD SCAM
Staff at the CVS Pharmacy, 3780 Willow Road, called police to inform them a customer was being scammed into buying more than $1,000 in Google Play gift cards by a caller who claimed to be a Google employee.

THEFT
Staff at The Glen Town Center reported at 7:40 p.m. on March 2 that someone had taken a maintenance golf cart without permission. Police later found the golf cart in the parking garage.

BATTERY?
A resident in the 1500 block of Lehigh Avenue reported around 12:30 p.m. on March 3 that his neighbor had blocked his path to the laundry room and bumped into him, which he said was retaliation for an earlier complaint regarding loud music. A witness told police there had never been any contact and officers determined the report was not credible.

TEEN AT DOOR
A resident in the 1700 block of Greenwood Road reported at 2:50 p.m. on March 3 that a 17-year-old boy had rang their doorbell and claimed people were trying to beat him up. Officers were unable to find any such teen or any disturbance in the neighborhood when they arrived.

THEFT OF LOST OR UNATTENDED ITEM
A patron of Naf Naf Grill, 3818 Willor Road, reported he had lost a $500 gift card between noon and 2 p.m. on Dec. 22. The man later learned someone had used the gift card to make purchases at Abt Electronics on Dec. 23 and Jan. 20.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a 2019 Dodge Challenger from as it was being delivered to Fields Auto Group, 2800 Patriot Blvd., around 12:30 p.m. on March 4. Surveillance video revealed a white car with a stolen license plate followed the stolen car. Northfield police received a report of a black Dodge and white car headed speeding east on Willow Road and running read lights. The stolen Dodge was later found by Chicago police around 3:30 p.m. parked in the 500 block of West Roosevelt Road with no one inside.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff of Abt Electronics, 1200 Milwaukee Ave., reported on March 4 that a customer had stolen an $800 drone by hiding it under his jacket after purchasing a camera. Loss prevention staff called the man, demanded that he return the drone and he did.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Ignacio Salvador Soriano, 28, of the 1700 block of Greenwood Road, Glenview, was arrested at 3:18 a.m. on Feb. 24 in the 1800 block of Elmdale Road and charged with domestic battery after police were told he pushed and hit a person.

A 17-year-old Glenview girl was arrested at 10:38 p.m. on Feb. 27 and charged with speeding more than 35 mph above the limit following a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Patriot Boulevard. She was also ticketed for disobeying a stop light.

Emily Sika, 21, of the 500 block of South State Street, Chicago, was issued a citation for retail theft and a trespass warning for stealing $412 worth of clothing from the Von Maur, 1960 Tower Drive, around 8:15 p.m. on March 1.

A 20-year-old Chicago woman was arrested at 10:07 p.m. on March 1 and charged with driving without a valid license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle after police investigated a traffic crash in the 9800 block of Milwaukee Avenue. She was also ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

Two juveniles were issued citations around 5:45 p.m. on March 2 after stealing a six-pack of beer from the Jewel, 2775 Pfingsten Road.
