HEAR Foundation Announces Scholarships for its' Class of 2021 at Annual Awards Ceremony

We are a not-for-profit providing scholarships to exemplary High School Seniors in financial need in order to pursue a college education.

The HEAR Scholarship Foundation awarded 16 new scholarships at its’ annual award ceremony at St. Ignatius College Prep on Thursday May 11, 2017. These four-year, $20,000 scholarships are given to exemplary high school seniors in financial need to attend college.

For the first time since the Foundation was established in 2011, two students from Glenbrook South High School were awarded scholarships. Nick Moran and Lori Steffel are both graduating seniors on their way to college.

Says Lori “Being awarded the HEAR Scholarship allows me to pursue my dreams without restraint. It has been a truly humbling honor to be a recipient of this scholarship, and I look forward to fostering and growing my relationship with the HEAR family”.

Nick will be attending Grand Valley State University in the Fall to major in Journalism, whilst Lori has decided on Boston College, majoring in Economics. We wish these two students the best of luck in their next adventure.

These scholarships are particularly meaningful to our Board of Directors, as many of them live in Glenview, and their children attend(ed) Glenbrook South High School.

Since establishing in 2011, HEAR has now awarded 55 scholarships, and committed over $1,000,000 to help students in need fulfill their dreams of achieving a higher level of education. Some colleges these students now attend include Yale, Harvard, Boston College, De Paul, Northwestern, Marquette, Johns Hopkins, Dartmouth, Missouri to name a few. Current disciplines include Medicine, Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience, Media, Education, Finance, Journalism and Psychology.

Current HEAR President Robert Wise of Glenview says "All our Scholarship Recipients are exceptional students. They are of strong character, high achievers academically, and they have a commitment to service in the community. Without our scholarship, many of them would not be able to attend college. We are making a positive difference in their life."

The HEAR Foundation received over 500 applications through its’ online portal this year, all from high schools within the Chicagoland area. The Foundation has strong relationships with private and public school college counselors, and with local organizations including Chicago Scholars, Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund, Boys Hope Girls Hope and Evanston Scholars.

The HEAR Scholarship Foundation provides financial and mentoring support to Chicagoland High School graduates of need, who have demonstrated academic excellence, commitment to community, and highest moral character to pursue their dream of a college education.
