Housing Debate Heats Up in Glenview
Property owners, residents clash on whether Glenview should adopt County ordinance.

The issue of whether or not to honor Cook County’s 2013 measure that protects the rights of Section 8 voucher holders is again a hot topic for residents and officials in Glenview.
The Daily North Shore reports comments from those in favor and against the measure spoke passionately at the village’s February 17 meeting. It was largely property owners arguing against adopting the measure and allowing more time while residents including members of the Glenview League of Women Voters voiced their support of the county measure, which has been adopted in nearly all Cook County municipalities.
While still on the fence, the village conducted a survey of landlords, which, if the policy is adopted would no longer be allowed to use a person’s use of the voucher program as a reason to deny someone a lease on its own.

Planner Jeff Brady said during the meeting that only 10 of the 21 sought out responded, but only four of those 10 would accept them. Only one, however, said they were not in favor.
As for current statistics, five of the responses indicated the landlord does not currently use the voucher program. Three indicated they previously did and two are using it.
