Hospital employee slapped at work; shoplifters nab over $2,000 worth of clothes: Glenview police blotter from July 31 to Aug. 13

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
THEFTS
- Someone stole $48.54 worth of clothing from a business in the 2200 block of Willow Road by marking down the price of some items and hiding clothing behind other clothes, police were told around 9:30 a.m. on July 30.
- A shopper at a business in the 1300 block of Patriot Boulevard reported around 7:45 p.m. on July 30 that someone had stolen a purse with cash, a driver's license, a cell phone and credit cards from inside a shopping cart for a reported loss of $100.
- Someone stole $870 worth of jewelry from a home in the 600 block of Fairway Drive at some point prior to 1:15 p.m. on Aug. 2.
- A resident in the 3200 block of West Lake Avenue reported around 11:45 p.m. on Aug. 3 that someone had stolen $3,000 worth of jewelry and cash from their home.
- An employee of a store in the 1800 block of Tower Drive reported around 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 5 that someone stole a phone worth $450 from a display area.
- An store employee in the 1200 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 that someone stole merchandise worth $745 that had been stored in an inventory room.
- A customer at a business in the 3800 block of Willow Road reported around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 that someone stole their wallet while they were inside for a $300 loss.
- Someone stole a package worth $96.50 that had been delivered to the 1900 block of Westleigh Drive on July 20, police were told on Aug. 8.
- Two plants worth $50 were reported stolen from a front law in the 700 block of Beaver Road between 7 p.m. Aug. 8 and 3 p.m. Aug. 11.
- Someone stole an unattended backpack containing an iPhone from the 2400 block of Chestnut Avenue prior to 4:45 p.m. on Aug. 12.
HARASSMENT

- An employee at a business in the 1200 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported around 8:30 a.m. on July 31 that they had gotten a threatening phone call.
- A resident in the 2300 block of Phillips Drive reported around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 1 that they had gotten unwanted messages through a messaging app.
- An Glenbrook Hospital employee reported around 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 4 that a former patient keeps calling her at work.
- A resident in the 1400 block of Kittyhawk Lane reported around 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 7 that a potential business client had left them a harassing voicemail and they wished to press criminal charges.
RETAIL THEFT
- Three people stole between $2,000 and $3,000 worth of clothing from a business in the 1900 block of Tower Drive, police were told around 12:45 p.m. on July 31.
- Someone stole $52.90 worth of clothing from the shelf of a business in the 2700 block of Old Willow Road prior to 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 4.
- Someone stole a cell phone case worth $10 from a business in the 2400 block of Sanders Road.
BATTERY
An employee at Glenbrook Hospital reported at 4:40 p.m. on July 31 that someone punched her in the face and jaw while she had been assigned to observe a patient.

IRATE CUSTOMERS
- An employee of a business in the 2500 block of Waukegan Road reported at 2 p.m. on Aug. 1 that a customer loudly and belligerently complained about an order.
- An employee in the 1600 block of Waukegan Road reported around 5:15 p.m. on Aug. 2 that a customer was shouting inside the business.
TRESPASSING
A resident in the 1500 block of Sunset Ridge Road reported around 2:15 p.m. on Aug. 2 that someone had been on a property without permission.
CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A Burr Oak Drive resident reported on the evening of Aug. 5 that their credit card was missing and someone had made $800 worth of fraudulent purchases with it.
STOLEN CAR
An employee of a rental car company in the 1800 block of Waukegan Road reported a red 2019 Jeep Cherokee with Virginia plates was never returned after being rented on July 1.
HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 1700 block of Harrison Street reported that someone broke in through a back door and ransacked their home between 3 and 7 p.m. on Aug. 6 for a loss of $5,200.
NUDE PHOTO SCAM
A Windsor Road resident reported shortly after 9 a.m. on Aug. 8 that they had gotten a message on Snapchat demanding $1,000 be sent to an address in the Philippines and threatening to send naked photos of the resident to all of their Facebook friends. The resident recognized it as a scam and did not pay any money.
CREDIT CARD SCAM
A Constitution Drive resident reported around 10:45 a.m. on Aug. 11 that they had gotten a voicemail from someone claiming to be with Chase Bank. The message said the resident’s credit card was used to purchase three airline tickets, but the resident contacted Chase Bank and confirmed the voicemail was fraudulent.
SMASHED WINDOWS
- A resident in the 1800 block of Grove Street reported someone smashed out the passenger side window of a parked car between 7 p.m. Aug. 10 and 10 a.m. Aug. 11 for a loss of $200.
- Someone broke the rear window of a vehicle parked in the 1100 block of 11th Street, Northfield, between 10:30 a.m. and 6:50 p.m. on Aug. 12, causing an estimated $500 in damage.
FORGERY
An employee of a business in the 700 block of Harlem Avenue reported around 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 12 that someone had forged and cashed seven checks worth $840 from a business checking account.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Jose Canaan, 33, of the first block of Dewey Street in Dover, New Jersey, was arrested at 10:26 a.m. on July 30 at Abt Electronics, 1200 Milwaukee Ave., and charged with possession of a fictitious identification card and possession of a fictitious debit card after officers investigated a report of an attempted identity theft at the store.
Francisco Reyes, 56, of the 2600 block of South Sawyer Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 12:37 p.m. on July 30 and charged with battery following an investigation into a complaint in the 2000 block of Ammer Ridge Court.
Jennifer Toutges, 32, of the 300 block of Hale Street, Addison, was arrested at 12:41 p.m. on July 30 at the Mariano's, 25 Waukegan Road, and charged with retail theft after store staff told officers she stole $836.59 worth of merchandise from the grocery store. Daniel Gilardon, 43, of the same Addison residence in the 300 block Hale Street, was arrested at 12:44 p.m. after he was identified as being involved in a July 15 shoplifting incident at Mariano's. The total amount of loss was not known at the time of the report.
Michael Klusmeyer, 62, of the 200 block of Parkview Drive, Wauconda, was arrested at 10 a.m. on July 31 at the Glenview Police Department and charged with unlawful videotaping, without consent and in a restroom, after an investigation of into a report of disorderly conduct in the 2600 block of Compass Road.
Guillermo Perez, 40, of the 5000 block of West 31st Place, Cicero, was arrested at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 1 at the Skokie Courthouse, 5600 Old Orchard Road, and charged with retail theft of $1,290 worth of merchandise from Von Maur, 1960 Tower Drive, reported stolen on July 7.
Jose Robles-Michelena, 52, of the first block of Dover Street, Golf, was arrested around 10 p.m. on Aug. 1 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Glenview Road. He was also issued a citation for improper lane usage.
Stanislaw Kustwan, 69, of the 4600 block of Linden Avenue, Glenview, was arrested on a warrant for contempt of court in Kane County around 9:15 p.m. on Aug. 3 at his home following an investigation into a driving complaint.
Rade Mijailovic, 46, of the 5500 block of South Madison Street, Hinsdale, was arrested around 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 3 in the 2700 block of Patriot Boulevard and charged with domestic battery after officers responded to a panic alarm.
Marcel Kardas, 21, of the 3800 block of South Parkway Drive, Northbrook, was arrested around 5 a.m. on Aug. 8 at 850 W. Addison St., Chicago, on a warrant for an identity theft that took place April 9 in the 1000 block of Castilian Court, Glenview.
Alan Pawlowski, 19, of the 100 block of Basswood Drive, Elk Grove Village, was arrested at 9:45 p.m. on Aug. 9 and charged with fleeing and eluding a police officer following a traffic stop in the 2400 block of East Lake Avenue. He was also issued citations for speeding between 21 and 25 mph above the speed limit and driving an uninsured vehicle.
