Illinois Shockwave 12U takes championship in Indiana

On Saturday, May 21, Shockwave 12U traveled to Merrillville, Indiana to participate in the NSA Hidden Lake Summer Kick-Off. The team started the day defeating Lockport Pride 10-3, and went on to finish pool play with a 2-1 record, defeating Crete Crush 10-2 but losing to NWI Wolfpack 4-2. Despite the loss, Shockwave earned the #1 seed and secured a bye for the first round of elimination play. The team’s first game of elimination play pitted them against Lockport Pride for the second time that day. Although Lockport Pride out-hit Shockwave 5-4, the Shockwave defense was tough and the Pride stranded 5 runners on base. The win advanced Shockwave to the championship game where they had to face the only team to rack up a win against them for the day. Shockwave came out strong at the plate and in the field, allowing no runs and defeating NWI Wolfpack 13-0 to take first place. The 12U team showed incredible spirit and endurance throughout the day to capture the title. Coach KC Liberty, Coach Rocky Sapienza and Coach Greg Kapsimalis were proud of the team and look forward to the team’s next tournament in Evanston, Illinois this Memorial Day weekend.
