Illinois Shockwave 16u's Maddy Schoeff hit two home runs in one game at a New Year's tournament at Avanti's Dome in Pekin, IL
Illinois Shockwave 16u participated in Illinois ASA’s New Year’s Bash held at Avanti’s Dome in Pekin, Illinois on January 6 – 8, 2017. The team went 1-1 in pool play and won their first elimination game against the Avanti Yellow Jackets (7-6) to advance to the semi-finals. In the fourth inning of that semi-finals game, which pitted Shockwave against Premier Fastpitch-Black, Maddy Schoeff blasted an over-the-fence dinger to get her team on the scoreboard. Shockwave was able to score two more runs that inning, but still trailed behind by one. Not content to rest on her laurels, Maddy hit a second over-the-fence dinger again in the fifth inning. Ultimately, Maddy’s homers weren’t enough to win the game (Shockwave lost 7-4), but they made for an exciting afternoon of softball and her teammates couldn’t have been happier for her. Congratulations on your stellar performance, Maddy! We are so proud you are a part of Illinois Shockwave!
Note: Illinois Shockwave 16u is coached by former Kenyon College starting pitcher Maddy Stark. The team is still looking for one solid utility player to add to their summer 2017 lineup. For more information about Illinois Shockwave, visit www.illinois-shockwave.org.
