Lucky Day in Glenview for Lotto Player

Milwaukee Avenue store sells $100,000 winning ticket

It may not have the excitement or the dollar signs of the March Mega Millions, but someone was happy they purchased an Illinois Lottery ticket in Glenview over the weekend.

That's because one lucky person bought the $100,000 winning ticket at the , 501 Milwaukee in Glenview. It was part of the daily Lottery’s Lucky Day Lotto game, recently renamed from the previous moniker of the Little Lotto.

The identity of the person is not yet known but Sonny Patel, who was working at Vilin on Sunday, said because of the rainy weather only 12 people came in to purchase Lucky Day Lotto game tickets that day. He was very happy to know he was part of making someone’s life better – or at least – richer.

“It’s very exciting to know I sold the winning Lotto ticket,” Patel said. “When I tell customers good luck it is from my heart.”

The owner of the store, Varsha Patel, will receive one percent of the gross or $1,000 for selling the ticket.

The winner came in and chose his or her own numbers, officials said. Lottery spokesman Mike Lang estimated that approximately one third of players select their own numbers, the rest go with a 'Quick Pick'.

The ticket was selected as part of Sunday night’s drawing. Lang said the odds of anyone buying the ticket that matched the five winning numbers are 1 in 575,757. $100,000 is the lowest amount a person can win for matching all five numbers; the amount of the prize goes up every time there is not a winner.

This is not the first time Glenview has seen a Lucky Day Lotto winner. In March 2011, the 7-11 at 3703 Central sold one of the three winning Little Lotto tickets. The Glenview winner split the $675,000 pot with two other winners and walked away with $225,000.
