Maine Township Highway Commissioner Bob Provenzano to retire

Longtime Maine Township Highway Commissioner Robert Provenzano has announced his retirement and resigned his office effective July 31.

Longtime Maine Township Highway Commissioner Robert Provenzano announced his retirement at the Township Board meeting July 26 and resigned his office effective July 31. He has served at Highway Commissioner since Jan. 1, 1998. Joining the Board as Collector on May 3, 1993, a position he held until Nov. 22, 1994, he also served as a Trustee from Nov. 22, 1994, until Dec. 31, 1997.

Recognized by the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce which presented him with its Community Star Award in 2008, Provenzano has also been recognized by the Township Officials of Illinois to be among the top five percent of all highway commissioners for his leadership in training management and was chosen as Elected Official of the Year in 2008 by the Illinois Township Association of Senior Centers Services Committee.
During his career as Highway Commissioner, he secured more than $2 million in community block grants which helped pay for street and other repairs saving the Township that expenditure. Provenzano thanked the residents of Maine Township for all the years of cooperation in areas such as curbside appearance of the neighborhoods.

At the meeting, Supervisor Carol A. Teschky read a proclamation thanking him for his dedicated service to the residents of Maine Township. A special meeting has been called for Monday, Aug. 1 to consider the appointment of a replacement Highway Commissioner.
