Panic Button Scares Off Burglar As He Breaks Into Home: Blotter
Home burglaries, disputes with customers, motel room battery reported on the Glenview police blotter from May 15 to May 28.

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
TRESPASSING
- An employee in the 1800 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported at 9:09 a.m. on May 14 that a person was on the property without permission.
- A resident in the 1300 block of Heatherfield Lane reported at 11:27 a.m. on May 18 that an someone without permission was on their property.
- An employee in the 1700 block of Grove Street reported shortly before noon on May 20 that someone was on their property without permission.
CUSTOMER DISPUTES

- An employee at the Subway, 9719 Milwaukee Ave., reported at 9:38 p.m. on May 14 that two men had entered the store and ordered sandwiches. The staffer said the men criticized the sandwich, throwing cups and potato chips on the floor as they left the eatery.
- An employee in the 2100 block of Pfingsten Road reported at 2:25 a.m. on May 18 that a patient was being rude to staff and disruptive.
- An officer was called to a business in the 1800 block of Glenview Road around 9:30 p.m. on May 25 for a report of a customer who was upset with the service they had gotten from restaurant staff, complaining they were not being served any more alcohol. The customer was given a trespass notice and left the property.
SHOPLIFTING
- An employee of the Mariano's, 25 Waukegan Road, reported at 1:39 p.m. on May 16 that someone had stolen $600 worth of boxes of Nexium from a display and run out of the store.
- Staff at the Mariano's reported at 7:34 p.m. on May 17 that someone had stolen four bottles of alcohol worth $200 from a shelf.
- A Mariano's employee reported on the afternoon of May 21 that someone the staffer recognized from prior shoplifting incidents had stolen six items worth $260 from the store around 9 p.m. on May 20.
HOME BURGLARIES

- Someone pried open a door to a home in the 3300 block of Elmdale Road, stealing money and jewelry for a loss of more than $3,000, a resident reported at 10:18 p.m. on May 17.
- A resident of the 3900 block of Miller Drive reported around 2:45 p.m. on May 24 that they heard their doorbell ring several times and heard someone knocking but did not answer. A little while later, they heard someone kick open the garage door. Then they heard a door leading to the home being forced open. The resident hit the panic button on their alarm system and an unidentified male burglar fled the scene before officers arrived. There was an estimated $500 in damage to the doors.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
- A customer in the 1800 block of Waukegan Road reported around 12:15 p.m. on May 18 that someone had caused $2,800 in damage to their car by scratching it with a sharp object while it was parked in a lot.
- A shopper in the 2700 block of Sable Drive reported at 2:25 p.m. on May 18 that someone had punctured two tires on their parked car, causing $675 in damage.
- A resident in the 2300 block of Swainwood Drive reported at 10:15 a.m. on May 19 that someone had damaged a parkway tree for a loss of $500.
- A resident of the 2300 block of Dewes Street reported they heard a crash in their backyard and discovered a section of their fence broken, with estimated damage of about $500.
THEFTS
- A customer in the 1900 block of Waukegan Road reported around 10:30 a.m. on May 13 that someone had stolen a gold bracelet worth $1,000.
- A Northbrook resident reported at 11:19 a.m. on May 25 that they had lost a mobile phone valued at $100. The phone was tracked to the parking lot of a business in the 1400 block of Waukegan Road before moving toward the area of Glenview Road and Pine Street.
EMAIL SCAM
An Independence Avenue resident reported on the evening of May 14 that they had been scammed out of $1,800 by a spoofed email that appeared to come from a co-worker and asking for money to be transferred to someone else.
BATTERY
A contractor in the 3700 block of Miller Drive reported at 9:11 a.m. on May 16 that a co-worker had punched them after an argument. The victim declined to press charges.
ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT
A resident in the 2400 block of Waukegan Road reported around 2:30 p.m. on May 20 that they had gotten unwanted messages on a social media website.
CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole $285 worth of property from a contractor's work van in the 3100 block of Lexington Lane prior to 1:35 p.m. on May 21, police were told.
IDENTITY THEFT
A resident of the 300 block of Lincoln Street reported at 1:40 p.m. on May 24 that they discovered someone had used their identity to open an unauthorized Comcast account and accrued an unpaid $700 bill. The resident discovered the theft while investigating why their credit score had recently dropped.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Salvador Suarez-Bucio, 29, of the 1100 block of South Wells Street in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, was arrested around 8:15 p.m. on May 13 and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving without a valid license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle after an investigation into a traffic crash in the 2300 block of Waukegan Road. He was also issued a citation for driving left of center.
Yves Starling, 43, of the 10000 block of Linda Lane, Des Plaines, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on May 15 in the 3300 block of Milwaukee Avenue and charged with domestic battery following an investigation into an incident at Sybaris Suites, 3350 Milwaukee Ave.
Mario Paguirigan, 64, of the 7700 block of Lake Street, Morton Grove, was arrested around 10:15 p.m. on May 15 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater after a traffic stop in the BAC over .08 following a traffic stop in the 2700 block of Covert Road. He was also issued citations for speeding between 26 and 30 mph over the limit and failure to wear a seat belt.
Matthew Foley-Meyers, 29, of the 1800 block of Clarence Avenue, Berwyn, was arrested at 3:30 a.m. on May 16 at Motel 6, 1535 Milwaukee Ave., and charged with domestic battery following an investigation into an incident in the 3500 block of Milwaukee Avenue.
Guyiath Cilo, 43, of the 100 block of Waukegan Road, Glenview, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on May 17 at his home and charged with domestic battery following an investigation into an incident in the 100 block of Waukegan Road.
Scott Zacher, 60, of the 6500 block of West Addison Street, Chicago, was arrested around 6 p.m. on May 17 and charged with battery and disorderly conduct.
Carol Zoltek, 72, of the 8900 block of West Golf Road, Niles, was arrested around 6:30 a.m. on May 18 in the 2500 block of East Lake Avenue and charged with disorderly conduct.
Jose Zuniga, 28, of the 3500 block of West North Avenue Chicago, Illinois was arrested around 8:45 p.m. on May 19 in the 1100 block of 11th Street, Northfield, on a Will County warrant issued for failing to appear in court.
Kevin Bibbs, 52, of the 1000 block of Park Drive, Flossmoor, was arrested at 6:11 p.m. on May 23 and charged with retail theft in connection with five shoplifting incidents at the Mariano’s, 25 Waukegan Rd., in which about $428 worth of alcohol and various toiletry items were reported stolen.
Johnny Lakes, 44, of the 800 block of West Montrose Avenue, Chicago, was arrested by Glenview detectives at 8:50 a.m. on May 24 at his apartment and charged with identity theft in connection with an April 25 incident that took place at a business in the 1200 block of Milwaukee Avenue. Police said he stole $1,300 and he was tracked down after a wanted bulletin was issued.
A 60-year-old Northbrook man was issued a local ordinance citation for shoplifting around 11 a.m. on May 25 after police were told he stole about $22 worth of merchandise from a business in the 600 block of Milwaukee Avenue.
An 82-year-old Northfield woman was issued a local ordinance citation for shoplifting and trespassing notice around 3:30 p.m. on May 25 after police were told she stole about $30 worth of items from a store in the 2200 block of Willow Road.
