Passenger Sustains 'Severe' Injuries During Taxi Fare Dispute: Glenview PD
Police said the driver, who was charged with reckless driving, caused the victim to fall from his taxi by accelerating the vehicle.
GLENVIEW, IL — A taxi driver has been charged following a physical altercation with a passenger over a fare. Abderrezak Djerrah, 60, of Chicago, faces one count of misdemeanor reckless driving stemming from the Monday, according to the Glenview Police Department.
The North Regional Violent Crimes Task Force assisted in the investigation.
Police said the incident occurred at around 1:23 p.m. in the 3100 block of Sanders Road, where Djerrah had parked his taxi.

As the male passenger attempted to exit the vehicle, Djerrah reportedly accelerated, causing the victim to fall from the taxi, strike the ground and sustain severe injuries. Police said the victim remains hospitalized as a result of the incident.

Initial reports circulating about the incident had suggested it had involved a shooting, but Glenview police cleared this up, saying their investigation revealed there were no firearms.
The charges against Djerrah were filed after police reviewed the case with the Cook County State's Attorney’s Office. Djerrah was processed and subsequently released on Wednesday. He is due back in court on March 26.
