Property Tax Increase Proposed in Glenview for 2017

Motor fuel tax increase another way village trustees plan to offset deficit in corporate fund.

GLENVIEW, IL - There could be an increase in property tax bills and the motor fuel tax in Glenview in 2017.

Village trustees proposed both increases as a way to offset a projected operating deficit in the corporate fund during a budget workshop earlier this month, according to the Journal & Topics.

A consensus among trustees is to increase property taxes by $200,000 or 1.75 percent overall. That would equate to a $10 increase on a home worth $400,000.

The increase in the proposed motor fuel tax would be from two cents a gallon to four cents if the budget as it stands now is approved in December. Some permit fees for mid-sized projects are also likely to be increased.

The Journal reports that after a discussion on both increases and other ways to prevent a deficit in the fund that the projected $559,809 deficit turned into a $191 surplus.
