Readers Talk Autism, Dog Care and a Dog Himself Speaks Up

Dog trainers, the mother of a child with autism and our congressman are included in Patch's Sunday blogger roundup.

Glenview Patch’s bloggers have been a prolific bunch recently and we wanted to highlight some of them for your weekend perusal. If you’re interested in joining the ranks of Local Voices by posting your own blog, please click here. It’s easy to get started.

: First off, a big hello and a treat for Merlin D'Aussie, Glenview Patch’s first canine blogger. Merlin’s inaugural post was directed at his human counterparts, . “I know you humans have a lot more keeping you busy, but I couldn’t help thinking that maybe you all should wag your tails more. It’s important to celebrate the little things and tail wagging is one of the best ways I know to do that,” he wrote.

In keeping with our canine theme, AnimalSense offered up , and why it’s beneficial — it can teach self-control and release anxiety in a non-furniture-chewing kind of way. A couple tips: limit sessions to a few minutes, or even just a few seconds, so your dog doesn’t get too hyper; and the game promptly stops if a tooth so much as grazes you.

: Amy Greenebaum shared about his enduring friendship with Greenebaum’s son, Luke, who has autism. “Building important life skills has perhaps been Luke’s greatest accomplishment. Helping him do it has been one of mine,” his friend, Mark Rosskamm, wrote.

Etc.: There were many other blogs worth reading this week, including about his Main Street Jobs Agenda, and about Zbigniew Brzezinski’s talk to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs on Monday.
