Resident Buys Bitcoin To 'Unlock' Computer: Glenview Police Blotter
Police said the person had received a pop-up notice on their computer that froze the screen prior to buying the bitcoin as part of a scam.

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department (unless otherwise noted) and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

- Diana Reyes, 32, of the 3500 block of S. 54th Street, Cicero, is accused of driving under the influence of drugs, unlawful use of cannabis by the driver, suspended registration, and was arrested at 8:23 p.m. July 20, following a well-being check in the 1500 block of Meadow Lane. She was released on bond.
- Vlad Gotkis, 38, of the 3000 block of Huntington Drive, Arlington Heights, is accused of DUI alcohol, possession of a concealed carry firearm while intoxicated, and was arrested at 3:05 p.m. July 27, following the investigation of an incident in the 2700 block of Aviator Lane. He was released on bond.
BOND FORFEITURE WARRANT
Gerardo Lopez, 46, of the 500 block of Colorado Avenue, Aurora, had an outstanding bond forfeiture warrant out of Aurora, and was arrested at 2:25 p.m. July 26, following the investigation of a traffic crash in the 400 block of Glenview Road. He was released on bond.

INCIDENTS
BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE
- A resident in the 4100 block of Cove Lane reported that between July 24 and July 25, someone entered their parked vehicle and stole tools.
- A Goshen, Indiana resident reported that during the overnight hours of July 29, someone stole the catalytic converter from their vehicle while it was parked in a parking lot in the 1400 block of Milwaukee Avenue.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE/ATTEMPTED BURGLARY
An employee of a business in the 3600 block of West Lake Avenue reported on July 26 several broken windows and dock doors that appeared to have been pried open on unoccupied buildings, all occurring sometime between May and July 2023.
SPEEDING
- A Park Ridge resident was cited at 2:20 p.m. July 26, for speeding 35+ mph over the speed limit, following a traffic stop in the 1400 block of East Lake Avenue.
- A Northbrook resident was cited at 9:03 p.m. July 27, for speeding 26-34 mph over the speed limit following a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Greenwood Road.
THEFT BY DECEPTION
- A resident in the 1000 block of Church Street called police at 4:51 p.m. July 26, to report receiving a pop-up notice on their computer that froze the screen. They purchased Bitcoin to “unlock” their computer and realized it was a scam.
- An employee of a business in the 1700 block of Glenview Road reported that between July 19 and July 28, someone made withdrawals from the business account, using a third-party payroll company.
NO VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE
A resident was cited at 10:27 a.m. July 27, for no valid driver's license following a traffic stop in the 600 block of Milwaukee Avenue.
TRESPASSING
An employee of a business in the 1600 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported at 9:14 p.m. July 27, a male came to the property and harassed employees. Officers gave the male a trespass warning to the business at the request of employees.
RETAIL THEFT
- An employee of a business in the 1900 block of Tower Drive reported at 11:55 a.m. July 28, someone stole three bottles of perfume. The offender fled the area northbound on Tower Drive.
- An employee of a business in the 3300 block of Glenview Road reported at 5:59 p.m. July 29, males stole beer and miscellaneous candy from the store. The offenders fled on foot southbound on Greenwood Road.
FORGERY
A resident in the 1100 block of Castilian Court reported on July 28 that between Jan. 1, 2017, and Dec. 21, 2017, a former business partner took out a loan using their information without their permission.
CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT
Glenview Park District employees called police at 8:21 a.m. July 31, to report graffiti was found spray-painted in a bathroom at Little Bear Park, 2598 Chestnut Ave.
