Woman Who Neglected Dogs in Glencoe Avoids Prison Time

GLENCOE, IL - The Glencoe woman who was charged with animal cruelty when authorities found 35 dogs in horrid conditions at her home in 2015 pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge this week and avoided any prison time.

Jeanne Harper won’t be allowed to care for any pets other than the one dog she was allowed to keep after the find in the 800 block of Greenwood Avenue, the Chicago Tribune reports. She will serve one year of conditional discharge after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor count of violating an animal owner's duties.

Other charges against Harper were dropped.

A well-being check to Harper’s home in 2015 revealed about 35 dogs covered in feces and matted fur. Most dogs were taken to area shelters where their conditions improved and were eventually adopted. Five of the dogs found were euthanized due to the severity of their conditions.
