Slain Glenview Student Remembered As 'Quiet Spirit Mature Beyond Her Years': Principal

Counselors will be on the Glenbrook South campus Monday to provide services to classmates of Lilly Bova, 16, who was fatally shot at home.

GLENVIEW, IL — As Glenbrook South High School students return to class Monday following spring break, they will do so while mourning the death of a classmate over the weekend. Lilly Bova, 16, a sophomore at the school, was fatally shot Saturday at her Northbrook (unincorporated Glenview) home.

In a letter sent to families, and shared with Patch, GBS Principal Barbara Georges said Bova's "kind-hearted and optimistic nature will be sorely missed." Throughout Monday, counselors and social workers will be providing services and support to students on the GBS campus.

"Though Lilly was a quiet spirit, her teachers and those who knew her best said she loved deeply and was bright, positive and mature beyond her years," Georges said.

WGN-TV reports the Cook County Sheriff's Office is searching for a person of interest. In a statement shared with Patch Monday, police acknowledged an investigation is "active and ongoing," but did not confirm the report. CCSO also said it is working in close coordination with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.

"While we cannot share further details at this time, this was an isolated incident and does not appear to pose a risk to the general public," CCSO said in the statement. "We strongly encourage anyone who may have information about this incident to contact Cook County Sheriff’s Police detectives at 708-865-4896."

At least one GoFundMe account has been set up to assist Bova's family, specifically her father, with burial costs for his daughter. It had raised over $3,500 of a $5,000 goal as of Monday morning, though Patch is not including a link in this report until the campaign can be verified.

Any future services for Bova had not been released as of Monday morning.

"As the Cook County Sheriff's Department continues its investigation, we are holding our entire community close and will navigate this difficult time together," said Georges, who also posted a link to community resources being offered by Glenbrook South and Northfield Township High School District 225.
