Smoliga Ends Olympic Trials, Finishes 23rd in 50-Meter Freestyle Prelims
Olivia Smoliga's London dreams officially ended Sunday when she finished out of the money in her third and final qualifying event. The Glenview native will be a senior at Glenbrook South in the fall.

fell short Sunday in the last of three qualifying events for the U.S. swimming team in Omaha. Smoliga swam well with a time of 25.66 in the 50-meter women's freestyle. But her time was only good for 23rd place, seven short of qualifying for the semi-finals tonight.

Smoliga, an incoming senior at Glenbrook South, impressed with a , televised nationally Wednesday night. She slipped to prelims on Friday.
The 17-year-old will have plenty of time to prep for another Olympic try in four years. Already a Smoliga will likely compete as part of a top college swimming program.
