GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
Someone caused $500 in damage by shattering a front window to a business in the 3100 block of Glenview Road prior to 5:30 a.m. on June 18. It appeared a burglar went into the closed establishment but did not steal anything from inside.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a wallet from inside the unlocked car of a patron parked at the Domino's Pizza, 1410 Waukegan Road, around 6:30 p.m. on June 16.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • A resident of an apartment building in the 1600 block of Glenview Road reported around 10 a.m. on June 19 that people who did not live in the complex had been loitering in a lower parking lot. Over the past several months, the resident reported the non-residents caused $40 worth of damage to ceramic ceiling tiles in the garage.
  • Someone scratched the driver's side of a car parked at Glenbrook Hospital, 2100 Pfingsten Road prior to 4 p.m. on June 20.
  • Someone did $500 damage to numerous limbs on a tree at John's Park, 2101 Central Road, prior to 11:30 p.m. on June 20.
  • The rope holding a flag at Navy Park, 2671 Navy Blvd., was found cut or torn around 5:30 p.m. on June 23.

FORGERY/IDENTITY THEFT

  • A 20 to 30-year-old woman wearing a Chicago White Sox cap and a blue, pink and white outfit used other people's identity to make purchases at two Von Maur stores on May 9. The thief created a credit account at another Von Maur store using a Lombard resident's identity and purchased $463 worth of perfume from the store's 1960 Tower Drive location, forging the resident's signature on the receipt, staff reported.
  • A Lincolnshire resident reported on the evening of June 19 that someone had used their credit account to make an unauthorized $175.59 charge on June 4 at Abt Electronics, 1200 Milwaukee Ave. Investigators discovered surveillance video of the thief signing the resident's name while picking up an iPod they had purchased.
  • An employee of a holding company in the 2300 block of Ravine Way reported on June 18 that someone tried to cash several fraudulent business checks made payable to individuals. The business did not suffer any financial loss.
  • A West Lake Avenue resident reported on June 21 that they got a bill for nearly $5,700 for a T-Mobil account that they never opened.
  • A Harlem Avenue resident reported someone used their credit card on June 22 to pay for $7,000 in car repairs in Riverdale. The resident suspected someone stole the card from mail delivered on June 17 or 18.
  • Someone opened up Best Buy and Discover credit cards using the identity of a Crestwood Lane resident on June 11 and tried to buy nearly $200 of clothing from Men's Wearhouse but the transaction was declined.

HARASSMENT

  • A Tennessee man sent emails to staff at Abt Electronics, 1200 Milwaukee Ave., starting June 17. The messages threatened to inform the Outlaw motorcycle gang that Abt did not have satisfactory service. "See you all soon," one message said. An officer called the customer and suggested he refrain from having any further contact with the business.
  • A guest at a motel in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported around 5:30 p.m. on June 19 they had been getting threatening phone calls from a friend of their deceased brother. An officer contacted the friend and asked them to stop, and the hotel guest did not wish to press charges.
  • A resident in the 1800 block of Tower Drive reported on the morning of June 21 that they had gotten a letter two days earlier with a photo of their daughter and a message suggesting that she was promiscuous. The resident believed the letter was sent by an ex-boyfriend, so officers contacted him and told him to stop contacting the resident.
  • A resident in the 1800 block of Tower Drive reported on the afternoon of June 21 that they had gotten text and social media messages from a woman with accusations about an affair. Officers contacted the source of the messages and told them to stop contacting the resident.

AGGRAVATED ARSON
Someone lit a smoke bomb on the front porch of a home in the 2000 block of Brandon Road around 9:15 p.m. on June 19. After it was extinguished, the porch continued to smolder overnight, which required a response from the fire department. The resident reported the smoke bomb caused an estimated $3,050 in damage to the porch's wood floorboards and provided police with suspect information.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 1600 block of Palmgren Drive by prying open a window from the garden between 11:15 a.m. and 2 p.m. on June 20 and stole $11,000 worth of jewelry from a bedroom.

BATTERY

  • Two employees of the Glenview Park District got into argument around 6:45 p.m. on June 21 at the Glenview Prairie Club, 2800 W. Lake Ave., where one grabbed another by the shirt collar. The employee did not wish to press charges.
  • A witness reported around 9:30 p.m. on June 22 that they saw a man punching a woman in the head and kicking her on the ground in the 1800 block of Tower Drive. The witness told police they yelled at the man and he fled in a car. Police reported the woman was extremely intoxicated and refused to cooperate or provide any information to officers after she was taken to the hospital for evaluation of her injuries.

COMPUTER SCAM
A resident in the 2600 block of Chestnut Avenue reported around 3:30 p.m. on June 22 that they agreed to pay $189 to a company called EZ Tech and allowed it to access his computer remotely. The resident told police he was afraid the company would abuse the credit card number. Officers told him to cancel his credit cards and change his passwords if he was worried.

MORE SMOKE BOMBS

  • Someone rang a doorbell of a home in the 3200 block of Brandess Drive around 8 p.m. on June 24 after leaving a smoke bomb between its front and screen doors. There was no damage reported.
  • Someone rang a doorbell of a home in the 3900 block of Crestwood Drive around 8:15 p.m. on June 24 after leaving a smoke bomb between its front and screen doors. Firefighters determined no damage occurred. Police were told a young person parked outside the home sped away after the resident exited his house. Police were unable to speak to the person identified.

HOTEL HACKING?
A guest at a hotel in the 1400 block of Milwaukee Avenue called police shortly before midnight on June 24 to report they discovered someone changed a password to an e-commerce website while accessing the account through the hotel's wireless internet. The guest believes someone using the hotel network changed it, but technical support staff at the hotel told police it is "next to impossible" for someone to have done so.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Powell Claussen, 30, of the 2000 block of Hickory Court, Glenview, was arrested at 9:40 a.m. on June 18 at the Glenview Police Department and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to give information and driving without a valid license in connection with an investigation into a June 17 traffic crash in the 200 block of Greenwood Road. He was also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Two minors were issued citations under village ordinance for underage possession of alcohol around 10:30 p.m. on June 18 at Sleepy Hollow Park, 1821 Maplewood Lane, by officers investigating a complaint from a neighbor.

A 24-year-old Morton Grove man and a 24-year-old Niles man were issued village ordinance citations and warned they could face trespassing charges if they return to the Mariano's at 25 Waukegan Road around 1 p.m. on June 19 after staff reported they walked out of the grocery store with a combined $227.23 worth of stolen items. Security stopped the men after they left and recovered the property.

Richard M. Ramos, 24, of the 900 block of Windsor Road, Glenview, was arrested at 4 p.m. on June 19 at the Statesville Correctional Facility in Crest Hill on a pair of Glenview warrants issued after he forfeited bond on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving on a suspended license.

Gavin M. Thompson, 27, of the 2300 block of Chestnut Avenue, Glenview, was arrested around 6:15 p.m. on June 19 at the Glenview Police Department and charged with domestic battery in connection with an investigation into a June 10 incident at his home.

A minor was cited under village ordinances for damage to property and violation of curfew after he drove a truck off the road in John's Park, 2101 Central Road, around 12:30 a.m. on June 23, causing damage to the grass. The juvenile's truck got stuck in muddy grass and required a tow truck.

A 43-year-old Chicago woman was arrested at 12:15 a.m. on June 23 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop at East Lake Avenue and Waukegan Road. She was also issued a citation for improper lighting.
