The Importance of Social Skills in AS

As your child matures and enters middle school and high school, your role in their life will begin to change. Your child will want to start taking on more responsibility for their social development and the choices they make. However, for children with Asperger's, they may lack certain social skills that their neurotypical peers have, including those for communication and interaction. It is important to recognize the importance of developing these skills, and it may be beneficial to seek some help for a mental health professional. Support and exercises provided by a therapeutic setting can help your child learn the tools needed to successfully engage others and build essential peer relationships.
