The Therapist's Role

For many reasons, children and adults alike may lose their way and find themselves in need of help from a professional. The alliance between the therapist and the patient is to:

  • Create a relationship with the patient outside of their family and friends, and explore and help the patient discover or recover their "true self."
  • Assist with the patient's emotional and personal growth, and development, in a safe and secure environment.
  • Guide the patient - and their family - through difficult and often painful topics to achieve emotional and psychological well-being.
  • Build self-esteem and communication skills with the patient to that they can confidently express their emotions, and recognize their accomplishments.
  • Create an individualized treatment program to address the needs of the patient, and aid them in addressing their concerns to improve their emotional understanding.
  • Guide the patient's progress into the outside world, via a comprehensive plan of action.

Together with their patients, therapists create spaces of empowerment for patients to undergo emotional and psychological metamorphoses; and with the end of each session, patients can emerge anew and confidently conquer the world before them.
