Visitor Calls Store, Admits To Stealing: Glenview Police Blotter
The out-of-state resident said he wanted to make sure other shoppers didn't get accused of the theft.

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department (unless otherwise noted) and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Tom Ju, 44, of the 4100 block of Williamsburg Court, Glenview, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, no insurance, and was arrested at 11:06 p.m. April 13, in the 1000 block of Milwaukee Avenue. He was released and assigned a court date of May 29.
POSSESSION OF A STOLEN MOTOR VEHICLE

Charles Lipsey, 24, of the 16000 block of Homan Avenue, Markham, is accused of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, resisiting arrest, DuPage County failure to appear warrant, and was arrested at 5:01 p.m. April 8, in Oak Forest. The arrest was the result of an investigation into a stolen motor vehicle on March 7 in the 2300 block of Waukegan Road.

INCIDENTS
DISORDERLY CONDUCT
- Police responded to the 1200 block of East Lake Avenue at 12:28 p.m. April 8, after there were complaints of possible vandalism that were reported on a Ring community chat. There was no vandalism observed by officers. The complainant believes there were claims of false vandalism due to a history of disorderly conduct issues with another Glenview residence.
- Employees for a business in the 2400 block of Ravine Way reported at 3:51 p.m. April 9, someone was angry and rude over the phone. The person told employees they would come to the office and cause damage. Employees requested they be told not to come back to the office and that they are not welcome there anymore. Officers spoke to the subject and advised them only to communicate concerns with the corporate office.
- A Winnetka resident called police at 11:51 a.m. April 12, to report a resident of the 1400 block of Overlook Drive was following them too closely, honking, and made a gun like hand gesture at him in the 2600 block of Willow Road while driving. The person said while turning left onto Willow Road from Patriot Boulevard, the other party swerved into their lane, almost striking them. They said they did honk their horn, drive around them, and raised both their hands up but denied making a gun like hand gesture. Due to conflicting accounts of the incident, no enforcement action was taken.
RETAIL THEFT
- Employees of a business in the 1900 block of Tower Drive reported at 4:57 p.m. April 8, seeing a Hardwood Heights resident conceal several items in their purse and walk past the last point of purchase without paying for the items. They were stopped by loss prevention, and they recovered three sweaters and a pair of glasses, totaling $135. The person was issued a Village Ordinance citation for theft and was given a trespass warning not to return.
- Employees of a business in the 900 block of Waukegan Road called police at 4:07 p.m. April 10, to report a male had called the store and admitted to stealing merchandise, which he said was to prevent others from being accused of the theft. He said he was in town visiting from out of state. Total loss for the store is $267.50.
HARASSMENT BY TELEPHONE
An employee for a business in the 1000 block of Elm Street called police at 9:43 a.m. April 9, to report receiving multiple calls from businesses saying they had a missed call from the location. The employee said they did not call anyone, and it appears someone spoofed the number to robocall businesses.
BATTERY
A Lyft driver reported at 11:45 p.m. April 9, driving a fare to the 0 block of S. Branch. The person was highly intoxicated and being belligerent. The driver asked them to exit the vehicle, and they reached into the front seat and grabbed the driver’s arm.
UNWANTED PERSON
Employees of a business in the 4500 block of West Lake Avenue called police at 1:38 a.m. April 11, to report a person who was missing their cell phone and was yelling in the lobby. The employees asked them to leave the hotel, but they refused to leave without a refund, which the employees could not authorize without manager approval. The person later came to the lobby advising they found their phone but continued to yell at employees. They accepted a ride home from officers and left without further incident.
BURGLARY FROM MOTOR VEHICLE
A resident of the 2500 block of Waterview Drive called police to report that between April 11 and April 12, someone had entered their vehicle and stole a laptop and dog toys while it was parked at the address. Estimated loss is $1,050.
TRESPASS WARNING
Employees for a business in the 4600 block of West Lake Avenue called police at 9:36 a.m. April 13, to report an employee came to work intoxicated, and they wanted assistance in asking them to leave the property. They left without incident and were given a trespass warning not to return.
ORDINANCE VIOLATION
The Glenview police and fire departments responded at 1:44 p.m. April 14, to a residence in the 1300 block of Pfingsten Road for an exterior fire. It was determined that the property owner ignited a small area of yard debris. Due to extreme wind conditions, the fire spread beyond its intended burn area. Some damage occurred to a fence, otherwise Glenview firefighters were able to extinguish it in time. The owner was cited under Village Ordinance for Open Burning.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
A resident in the 2700 block of Commons Drive called police to report that on April 14, someone had utilized a tool to pry a door and rummaged through drawers, stealing a U.S. passport along with $10,000 USC. Building security camera footage was not readily available, and complaints will be signed.
