Woman, 28, Dies After Being Struck By Sheriff's Squad Car: Glenview PD

GLENVIEW, IL — A Chicago woman has died from injuries sustained Tuesday after she was struck by a Cook County Sheriff's Department patrol car. Mercedes Smith, 28, died Wednesday at Lutheran General Hospital.

The Glenview Police Department said it is continuing to investigate the incident with assistance from the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force Major Crash Assistance Team. The Cook County Sheriff's Department is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Police said the incident occurred at around 5:07 a.m. Tuesday, in the 9800 block of Milwaukee Avenue. Smith was taken to Lutheran General Hospital by the Glenview Fire Department and was in stable, but critical condition.
