Coroner IDs Mundelein Man Killed In Lake Co. Crash

Authorities say a Good Samaritan performed CPR on the Mundelein man who was thrown from an SUV. The man was later pronounced dead.

LAKE COUNTY, IL β€” The 57-year-old Mundelein man killed in a rollover crash near Antioch Saturday evening has been identified as Eleazar Hernandez.

Preliminary autopsy results show Hernandez died as a result of traumatic head injuries resulting from a crash, according to a news release from the Lake County Coroner's Office.

The collision happened at about 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 9 when a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by a 59-year-old Mundelein man, pulled out of a gas station parking lot at Route 45 and Route 173 and attempted to make a U-turn from westbound 173 to eastbound 173 when it was hit by a 1999 Lexus ES 300, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Hernandez, a front seat passenger in the Chevrolet, was ejected from the sports utility vehicle. A Good Samaritan performed CPR on the man until emergency personnel arrived and took him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to Condell with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The driver of the Lexus, a 25-year-old Buffalo Grove man, was not injured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
