2 Arrested Following Incident That Led To Lockdowns In Gurnee

The teen faces aggravated unlawful use of a weapon following the Friday incident in the 100 block of Minthaven Court in Gurnee.

GURNEE, IL — Two have been arrested in connection with an incident that lead officials to lock down schools and businesses in Gurnee Friday morning.

Authorities responded to the 100 block of Minthaven Court in Gurnee at about 11 a.m. for a report of a possible armed robbery where a handgun was stolen, according to a news release from the Gurnee Police Department.

Police searched the area and learned the suspects likely fled the scene. They learned they have have headed toward the Waukegan train station.

Waukegan Police Department officers searched the train station and identified several individuals who matched descriptions of the suspects. They were taken into custody, and police recovered two weapons, including the firearm that was stolen, while searching them, according to a news release.

The three suspects were taken to the Gurnee Police Department where they were questions. One person was released without charges and two others, Curtis Owens, 18, of Chicago, and Jaylen C. Montgomery, 18, of Gurnee, have both been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, which is a Class 4 felony.

The police activity following this incident prompted a soft lockdown at schools and businesses in Gurnee Friday morning. Police said the lockdown was implemented out of "abundance of caution."
