$3M Bail For Man Charged In Fatal Shooting In Gurnee Mills Parking Lot

GURNEE, IL — A 26-year-old Hainesville man is being held on a $3 million bail in connection with the 2021 murder of a Zion man in Gurnee, authorities said.
The Daily Herald is reporting Jesse Zumaya, 33, was arrested last week for allegations he fatally shot Jonathan Denicolas, 26, in November 2021 in a parking lot at Gurnee Mills mall. Zumaya is charged with second-degree murder, felon possessing/using a firearm, aggravated battery/discharge firearm and violate an order of protection, according to court records.
Gurnee police said the shooting occurred at about 2:10 p.m. on Nov. 21, 2021 in a parking lot on the northeast side of the mall, 6170 W. Grand Avenue in Gurnee. A bystander provided aid to Denicolas until officers and paramedics arrived.

Denicolas was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in critical condition where he later died.
Authorities at the time of the shooting said it appeared the attack was targeted.
