7 Apartments Uninhabitable Following Grayslake Fire

A fire broke out in the three-story apartment complex on Glen Street Wednesday evening.

GRAYSLAKE, IL — Seven families are without homes after a blaze ripped through an apartment building in Grayslake Wednesday evening.

One person was injured in the fire, which broke out at a three-story complex in the 100 block of Glen Street at 5:48 p.m. Wednesday.

Fire officials say the blaze originated in an apartment on the third story of the 12-unit complex. A resident in that apartment unit was treated at the scene for injuries and then released, according to the news release.

In total, 13 additional fire crews were called in to help at the scene and to assist the Grayslake Fire Protection District with additional calls. The blaze was brought under control about an hour after it was called in, fire officials said.

Seven apartment units are now uninhabitable due to fire and water damage, and the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents, according to a news release from the Grayslake Fire Protection District.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
