AKHAN also plans to create and expand community partnerships with the College of Lake County and Argonne National Laboratory.

AKHAN Semiconductors Inc. began operations in Gurnee this month by opening a new manufacturing facility.

The addition is meant to expand the company’s “cutting-edge diamond semiconductor production,” according to a press release from Congressman Randy Hultgren.

In addition, AKHAN plans to create and expand community partnerships with the College of Lake County and Argonne National Laboratory.

“AKHAN SEMI represents a great step forward for our district, both in scientific advancement and economic development. The innovative and dynamic work being done by AKHAN SEMI will be an incredible asset to our community,” Hultgren said.

Hultgren went on to say, “Their work is a prime example of the power and promise of taking the impressive discoveries that are being made at Argonne and other national labs and bringing them to the marketplace. The Incubator partnership with the College of Lake County to develop hands-on training for students pursuing tech careers is just one of the many incredible programs which AKHAN SEMI brings to the 14th.”

AKHAN SEMI is a global leader in STEM fields and brings a talented team of industry veterans to the district. Their cutting-edge work with diamond-based electronics and manufacturing will help to develop new industry standards and new commercial ventures, both in the district and globally, according to the news release.

The transition of their staff to Gurnee has already begun, and the company began operations earlier this month.

Starting in June, AKHAN SEMI will also begin the process of commercializing their research and patents as part of partnership with Argonne National Laboratory. The partnership with Argonne has also led to the development of a vocational training program, which provides education and the necessary skills for individuals to begin work in the STEM fields.
