Boy Accidentally Shot By Friend, Critically Injured: Police
A 15-year-old boy remains in critical condition following the Sunday evening shooting at a home on North Grandwood Drive near Gurnee.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition following an accidental shooting near Gurnee.
The teen was hanging out with friends in a basement at a home in the 36700 block of North Grandwood Drive in unincorporated Gurnee at about 6 p.m. Sunday when his friend, a 16-year-old boy, got out a "ghost gun" semi-automatic pistol, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
The boy fired the gun and it hit the 15-year-old boy in what authorities say appears to be an accidental shooting, police said.

When deputies arrived, they found the teen in the basement with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he remains in critical condition, according to a news release.
The teen who fired the gun was taken to Hulse Juvenile Detention Facility, authorities said.

The 16-year-old boy faces reckless discharge of a firearm, reckless conduct and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon charges, according to police.
