A deputy was trying to help revive Lin, who was lying unconscious and surrounded by blood on a mattress in the home's living room, when he "woke up" and immediately picked up a meat cleaver that was next to him, according to authorities.

Lin lunged at the deputy and then charged at the officer and another person in the home before the deputy shot him, police said.
