Cyclist Fatally Struck By SUV In Round Lake Beach

The bicyclist has died after being hit at the intersection of Fairfield Road and Hillside Drive, police said.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A bicyclist has died after being hit by a car in Round Lake Beach, police said. Officers responded to the scene of the crash at 7:38 p.m. in the intersection of Fairfield Road and Hillside Drive, according to Round Lake Beach police.

The 56-year-old man was riding his bike west on Hillside across Fairfield, when he was struck by a southbound Honda Pilot, according to a preliminary police investigation.

The driver, a 41-year-old man from Lake Villa, remained at the scene of the crash, authorities said.

The bicyclist was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, were he was later pronounced dead.

Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper has identified the victim as 56-year-old William Freeman of Round Lake Park.

"The preliminary autopsy results indicate he died of multiple traumatic injuries caused by blunt force trauma," Cooper said in a statement. “Mr. Freeman’s family has been notified and our deepest condolences go out to them. This is truly an awful tragedy.”
