4DX Movie Theater Planned for Gurnee

Sure, 3D movies is one thing, but how about 4D?

Local movie-goers could soon get a glimpse into 4DX technology when Marcus Theatres opens a 4DX screen at Marcus Gurnee Cinema. 6144 Grand Ave. in Gurnee. Construction is expected to begin soon with plans to open one 4DX screen at the theater by November, according to a press release from CJ 4DPLEX, the “world’s first 4D cinema company.”

The 4DX technology will bring moving seats to the theater and special effects like, wind, fog, rain, lighting, vibrations and event special scents ”that transcends the traditional cinema experience.”

“The result is that 4DX, going far beyond 3D, offers a complete visual, aural, olfactory and tactile experience to the latest blockbusters, and lends itself perfectly to high-action movies,” according to the news release.

CJ 4DPLEX is teaming with Marcus Cinemas to make the Gurnee theater a reality. The company just opened its first 4DX theater in the United States -- in Los Angeles -- last year and also plans to open two theaters in New York later this year.
