Nov. 13, 2020

When so many governments are in debt, unable to maintain infrastructure and fully fund their pensions, Grayslake stands apart as a leader in fiscal responsibility. Under this backdrop, Grayslake Mayor Rhett Taylor announced today his bid for reelection to continue his focus on fiscal responsibility and enhancing the quality of life for all Grayslake residents. In announcing his campaign, Taylor also endorsed incumbent Trustees Shawn Vogel, Adam Shores and Zoe Magnetta for reelection to the Village Board.

β€œGood government is delivered by a team,” said Taylor. β€œThat is why I’m proud to endorse my colleagues on the Village Board: Trustee Shawn Vogel; Trustee Adam Shores and Trustee Zoe Magnetta as they seek reelection. Working together, we will maintain Grayslake’s leadership position in delivering responsible and innovative government that is working well for all of our fellow residents.”

Taylor and the Village Board understand the crippling burden of high taxes. This is why they have held Grayslake’s portion of property taxes in check by either freezing them or levying less than the allowable cap on its share. In addition, Grayslake has maintained a balanced budget and been debt free for more than 12 years, all while fully funding public employee pensions. The Village’s strong financial position has allowed Grayslake to maintain a resilient capital investment program in addition to aggressive economic development that has brought millions of dollars of investment in new and existing businesses to our community.

β€œThis position of financial strength helps us foster an excellent quality of life for our residents. People want to live here, raise a family here and experience all we have to offer because our town is special,” said Taylor. β€œEven in the face of a global pandemic, we have shown how local leadership makes Grayslake a great place to call home.”

Because of the leadership of Mayor Taylor and the Board, Grayslake has made significant investment in road improvements and in the downtown through the acquisition and clean-up of Gelatin Park and continued investment in the downtown business sector, including cash incentives to local businesses during this pandemic. Grayslake has also been a leader in environmental stewardship, including extensive curb recycling; support of solar panels; electronic vehicle charging stations; and maximizing open space by ensuring that 50 percent of space in the Village is open.

β€œOurs is a rich history, and our future is even brighter,” said Taylor. β€œWe have 125 years to build upon, and I feel confident that the story we continue to tell – one that reflects and celebrates the diverse tapestry of our residents – will be a great one. In these challenging times, we must remain united and maintain the course we are on. Working together, we can keep our town strong, safe and healthy.”
