Grayslake Bans Marijuana Sales Until 2021

The Grayslake Village Board approved an ordinance on Tuesday to ban recreational marijuana sales for at least a year.

GRAYSLAKE, IL β€” Recreational marijuana sales will not be allowed in Grayslake until at least 2021. The Grayslake Village Board on Tuesday voted to ban recreational sales for a year after marijuana becomes legal in Illinois on Jan. 1, according to the Daily Herald.

Grayslake Assistant Village Manager Brett Kryska said if banned temporarily the village could see how things "are playing out in other towns" where marijuana sales are allowed.

"We wanted to make certain that we have as much regulatory control as possible. So this allows us to take a more deliberative, prudent approach," Mayor Rhett Taylor said.
